A plurality of surface conduction electron-emitting devices (1002) are arranged on a substrate (1001). Light emission is performed in accordance with the colors (R, G, and B) of phosphors applied to a phosphor film (1008) upon electron emission from the devices, so that an image is formed. The electron-emitting characteristics of the surface conduction electron-emitting devices (1002) are shifted in advance in correspondence with corresponding phosphor colors. Therefore, a satisfactory white balance of light emission of the R, G, and B phosphors can be obtained.

In a magnetooptical information recording-reproducing apparatus, recording of information is performed such that a laser beam is irradiated on a magnetooptical information recording medium via an optical head while applying a magnetic field to the beam irradiated portion of the recording medium onto which information pits are formed by utilizing the difference in the direction of magnetization thereof. The magnetooptical information recording-reproducing apparatus is provided with a band-like shielding plate which is arranged in an optical path of a reflected light from the recording medium upon application of the laser beam thereto in a direction perpendicular to tracks of the recording medium. Reproduction of information recorded on the recording medium is effected by detecting the beam which is not shielded by the shielding plate by use of a photodetector.

An optical information recording/reproducing apparatus is disclosed. In the apparatus, a light beam polarized in a predetermined direction is irradiated onto an opto-magnetic recording medium to which a pre-determined magnetic field is applied. The light beam from the recording medium is condensed by the optical device and the condenced light beam is detected by the two-division detector. The two-division detector has a division line extending in a direction perpendicular to tracks on the recording medium. According to the apparatus, crosstalks and jitters can be eliminated and reproduction with high reliability can be realized.

The catalysts are made from an alumina carrier substance, at least one active metal element selected from the Group VI metals in the periodic table, at least one active metal element chosen from the Group VIII metals in the periodic table, phosphoric acid, and an additive agent. The additive agent is at least one substance selected from dihydric or trihydric alcohols having 2-10 carbon atoms per one molecule, ethers of the alcohols, monosaccharides, disaccharides, and polysaccharides. A method for preparing the catalysts is also provided and includes impregnating the alumina carrier substance with a solution mixed with a certain amount of the active metal elements, phosphoric acid and the additive agent, and drying the impregnated carrier substance at a temperature of less than 200.degree. C.

A heat treating device including a pressure detecting unit for outputting an output signal when a pressure in a heat processing furnace becomes a set value, an air release pipe having a first valve and a check valve, a differential pressure gauge shut off by a second valve in terms of pressure from the interior of the heat processing furnace, and an air feed pipe having a third valve. One ends of each of the air release pipe and the air feed pipe is connected respectively to the heat processing furnace and the other ends opened in air. In such arrangement, after processing gases are evacuated from the heat processing furnace, an inert gas is fed. Then when an internal pressure of the furnace becomes near an air pressure, the first valve is opened in response to the output signal of the pressure detecting unit to make the internal pressure of the heat processing furnace a little higher than the air pressure. When a differential pressure value of the differential pressure gauge is below a set value, the third value is opened to communicate the interior of the heat processing furnace with air through the air feed pipe. Then the cap closing the opening of the heat processing furnace is opened.
