摘要:
A conscious sedation system and a response testing apparatus for a conscious sedation system. A controller generates a request for a predetermined hand motion response from a patient and analyses at least a hand motion response made by the patient to the request to determine a level of sedation of the patient. The response testing apparatus includes a request assembly and a response assembly. The request assembly communicates to the patient the request generated by the controller. The response assembly senses the hand motion response and communicates the hand motion response to the controller.

A conscious sedation system comprising a controller which generates an audio request for a predetermined response from a patient, the request including a personalized message and a response testing apparatus including a request assembly and a response assembly. The request assembly communicates to the patient the request generated by the controller and the response assembly detects the response and communicates the response to the controller. The conscious sedation system can have an input to include the personalized message.

A conscious sedation system, a response testing apparatus for a conscious sedation system, and a response assembly for a response testing apparatus for a conscious sedation system. A controller generates a request for a predetermined hand grip response from a patient and analyses at least a dynamic variable (such as a force, a pressure, or a distance) of a hand grip response made by the patient to the request to determine a level of sedation of the patient. A response testing apparatus includes a request assembly and a response assembly. The request assembly communicates to the patient the request generated by the controller. The response assembly senses the dynamic variable of the hand grip response and communicates the dynamic variable to the controller.

The disposable endoscope sheath includes a low-profile sleeve member that can accommodate a variety of different endoscope lengths that are longer than the sleeve member. In several embodiments of the invention, the sleeve member includes irrigation channels that do not communicate with an endoscope receiving space. In other embodiments of the invention, irrigation fluid passes through the endoscope receiving space of the sleeve member. In all embodiments of the invention, irrigation fluid that is expelled from the sleeve member can flush surgical debris away from the viewing end of the endoscope. The sleeve member has a generally low profile and does not require continuous suction to halt the expulsion of irrigation fluid from the sheath when the irrigation function is not being used. A brief reverse suction can be used to remove a residual drop of cleaning solution from the viewing end of the sheath.
摘要:
The disposable endoscope sheath includes a low-profile sleeve member that cooperates with the endoscope shaft to establish a relatively narrow irrigation space between the sleeve member and the endoscope shaft. The sleeve member is intentionally shorter than the endoscope shaft to accommodate a variety of different endoscope lengths that are longer than the sleeve. In various embodiments of the invention the sleeve member can be positioned to establish a predetermined distal gap between the terminal end of the sleeve member and the viewing end of the endoscope shaft, to establish a flush alignment between the respective ends, or to have the endoscope shaft project slightly beyond the terminal end of the sleeve member. Irrigation fluid can thus flow across the viewing end of the endoscope flushing away surgical debris from the viewing end. The sleeve member can be a rigid or flexible structure. The size of the irrigation space is sized to permit retention of irrigation solution in the irrigation space when irrigation fluid is no longer being directed into the irrigation space.

A method for differentiating between ultrasonically tuned blades which are broken or cracked, and blades which are gunked by evaluating measured impedance differences. The method is performed irrespective of the age of the hand piece/blade, the temperature or specific type of hand piece or blade, and is not affected by self healing effects of slightly cracked blades. Moreover, the method facilitates the quantifiable determination of the amount of gunk on the blade. Absolute impedance measurements of the transducer or blade are unnecessary. Instead, only relative impedance measurements are required, which greatly simplifies the measuring criteria. This provides a way to measure the amount of gunk accumulation, and thereby a way to calculate/estimate the amount of heat generated at the sheath, as well as a way to calculate/estimate the amounts of degradation to the load curve of the ultrasonic system.

An implantable sensor for detecting changes in tissue density is disclosed. The implantable sensor includes a transducer adapted for detecting indicators of tissue density. The implantable sensor includes memory for storing data corresponding to the tissue density indicators detected by the sensor. A telemetry circuit is configured for transmitting the tissue density data outside of the body.

A surgical instrument for assessing tissue characteristics such as tissue density and volume is disclosed. The surgical instrument is hand-held and includes transducers adapted for emitting and/or receiving acoustic signals. The surgical instrument utilizes pulse-echo to determine tissue characteristics. The surgical instrument may be utilized to determine such things as the size of a lesion and whether the lesion has been completely removed or filled with graft material.

A medical effector system comprised of a bedside unit and a procedure unit. The bedside unit contains a series of connection points for receiving inputs from a series of patient monitors. The procedure unit contains a patient monitoring and medical effector program, and a drug delivery pump or magnetic flux generator capable of delivering therapeutic energy to a patient. The medical effector system contains the capability to issue and receive a request from a non-sedated patient, issue and receive a request from a sedated patient and then to calculate a time difference. The medical effector program operates the pump or magnetic flux generator based upon at least some of the patient outputs and program inputs including a calculated time difference. A removable umbilical cable connects the two units and allows the output of the patient monitors as well as other information to travel between the two units.

A conscious sedation system and a response testing apparatus for a conscious sedation system. The response testing apparatus includes a request assembly and a response assembly. The request assembly communicates to a patient a request generated by a controller of the conscious sedation system for a predetermined response from the patient. The response assembly senses a response made by the patient to the request and communicates the response to the controller which analyses at least the response to determine a level of sedation of the patient. At least one of the request assembly and the response assembly includes a cableless communication device which communicates at least one of the request and the response between the controller and the patient.
