Abstract:
A sobriety ignition interlock system including an engine control device and a method for managing available vehicle engine power using the sobriety ignition interlock system. The engine control device includes an engine control processor (ECP) that is electronically connected in between an engine control unit (ECU), an engine sensor assembly, and a sobriety processor. The sobriety processor determines a sobriety level of a vehicle driver and sends a corresponding sobriety signal to the ECP. The ECP intercepts an engine signal transmitted from the engine sensor assembly to the ECU and manipulates the engine signal according to the sobriety signal, in order to manage the available power of the vehicle engine.
Abstract:
A vehicle remote operation device of optimized fail-safe function is disclosed that directs a vehicle to execute operations in response to a remote operation request made by a user of the vehicle. The vehicle remote operation device has a fail-safe control unit that changes a fail-safe criterion in execution of the remote operation according to a distance between the user and the vehicle. Preferably, the fail-safe criterion is moderated when the distance between the user and the vehicle is short. Alternatively, instead of measuring the distance between the user and the vehicle, a Smart Entry System is used to detect a key carried by the user to determine whether the user is near the vehicle.
Abstract:
A transmission state determination method of a power transmission device for an internal combustion engine driven vehicle including steps of: driving a generator by an internal combustion engine with a vehicle driven by the internal combustion engine stopped; performing an intake air amount gradually increasing process for gradually increasing the intake air amount of the internal combustion engine when the internal combustion engine is controlled so as to generate predetermined power from the generator; determining that the power transmission device for transmitting the output of the internal combustion engine to wheels of the vehicle is in a state of transmitting power when slight movement of a vehicle body is detected in the intake air amount gradually increasing process; and determining that the power transmission device is in a state of cutting power transmission when movement of the vehicle body is not detected in the intake air amount gradually increasing process.
Abstract:
A starter module configured to limit an engine speed of an engine for a walk behind trowel at time of startup. The walk behind trowel includes a rotor driven by the engine, a throttle to command an operating state of the walk behind trowel, and a clutch operable to selectively couple an output of the engine to the rotor. The starter module includes a sensor operable to provide a signal representative of an operating state of the trowel upon engine start-up. The starter module further includes a controller configured to receive the signal representative of the operating state of the walk behind trowel, and to prevent the clutch from engaging the engine output to drive the rotor if the detected operating state is outside of a designated range for idling operation of the engine.
Abstract:
A marine propulsion engine control system wherein the control includes an arrangement for slowing the speed of the engine by disabling certain cylinders in the event of an abnormal engine running condition. Also, an arrangement is provided for slowing the speed of the engine if a change speed transmission for driving the propulsion shaft by the engine offers more than a predetermined resistance to shifting. The controls are interrelated so that the engine protection control predominates. That is, if the engine is in protection control mode and the operator attempts a shift and more than a predetermined resistance is felt, the shift control routine will not be initiated to effect any additional engine speed reduction. In addition, when the engine speed is reduced, fuel is continued to be supplied by the fuel injectors to avoid backfiring, stalling, and uneven running. When rapid deceleration is called for the spark advance is rapidly retarded but fuel injection amount is gradually decreased.
Abstract:
An internal combustion engine particularly adapted for driving a vehicle, such as a watercraft, that includes accessories and an engine management system for controlling certain functions of the engine electrically. In order to prevent misadjustment in the event of low available battery voltage, a number of arrangements are depicted for maintaining battery voltage when the normal battery voltage falls. This may be done by increasing engine speed when operating in neutral, discontinuing the operation of other accessories and/or switching a second battery into the power circuit. In addition, an arrangement is provided wherein a battery may be supplied for utilization in starting of the engine to avoid depletion of the main battery's voltage so that the engine control can be maintained even during starting.
Abstract:
Ignition system for an internal-combustion engine, in particular for use in a chain saw or the like, comprising a magnetically conducting core supporting a charging winding and a triggering winding, a flywheel having at least one magnetic field generating member and adapted to cooperate with the magnetically conducting core to cause, when passing, voltages to be induced in the windings, and an electronic switch means adapted to trigger, in response to a trigger pulse generated by the triggering winding, the discharge of a capacitor, which has been charged by a voltage generated in the charging winding, via the primary of an ignition coil the secondary of which comprises a spark plug. The ignition system comprises an additional winding which is provided and disposed so that during its normal rotational movement the flywheel first passes said additional winding before turning in over the legs of the magnetically conducting core, the voltage induced in the additional winding being used to prevent trigger pulses from reaching the switch means if the direction of rotation of the engine is the opposite to the normal one.
Abstract:
This invention teaches a system for interrupting operation of the internal combustion engine of a vehicle so as to prevent an undesirably high level of carbon monoxide in the ambient. Engine operation is interrupted when there are simultaneous signals indicating a carbon monoxide level above a predetermined value and and idling condition of the engine.
Abstract:
This invention teaches a system for interrupting operation of the internal combustion engine of a vehicle so as to prevent an undesirably high level of carbon monoxide which would cause a low level of oxygen in the ambient. Engine operation is interrupted when there are simultaneous signals indicating an oxygen level below a predetermined value and an idling condition of the engine.
