Abstract:
A composite glass fiber cable is disclosed having a negative linear coefficient of thermal expansion which is controllable by variation of the twist of helically plied glass roving to substantially zero change in length over a wide variation in environmental temperatures under varying load conditions.
Abstract:
A cable or cord of a noncircular cross-section composed of a multiplicity of substantially parallel core yarns covered with a textile sheath, the core yarns being bound together and the sheath being bound to the core yarns by means of an adhesive or binder, such cord or cable being characterized in that the noncircular cross-section has at least one axis of symmetry and that, along the entire length of the cord or cable, at least one reinforcing element is present normal to the axis or one of the axes of symmetry, extending over the entire width of the core. Such cables or cords are produced by cross-section, a sheet of parallel core yarns with a binder, disposing the core yarns in the position that they will occupy in the finished noncircular cross-section cable or cord, and covering the core thus formed of parallel core yarns with a sheath, and thereafter vulcanizing the entire assembly, such process being characterized in that the core yarns provide a noncircular cross-section with at least one axis of symmetry and, at the time of formation of the core, reinforcing elements are introduced between the core yarns, such reinforcing elements also being impregnated with a binder, the elements being disposed along the entire length of the cable normal to the axis of symmetry or to one of the axes of symmetry of the core and extending over the entire width of the core at their point of introduction.

A tendon suitable for posttensioning concrete and for use in other applications comprising a multiple-wire strand incased in a corrosion inhibitor in an amount sufficient to provide a circular enclosure greater than the outside diameter of the strand and having a seamless plastic jacket tightly covering said incased strand. A process of making said tendon which comprises the steps of coating and filling the interstices of a multiple-wire strand with a corrosion inhibitor, passing same through a circular die of a diameter greater than the strand to remove excess corrosion inhibitor and to form a circular enclosure of said inhibitor around said strand, and melt extruding a plastic jacket around said incased strand.

A coated PC steel stranded cable includes: a stranded cable in which a plurality of elemental wires each composed of steel are twisted together; an anti-corrosive coating having an outer circumferential portion that coats an outer circumference of the stranded cable; an outer coating that coats an outer circumference of the anti-corrosive coating; and an optical fiber provided at a position inwardly of an outer circumferential surface of the outer coating and corresponding to a strand groove in the stranded cable so as to follow expansion and contraction of the stranded cable.
Abstract:
An embodiment of a wellbore cable comprises a cable core, at least a first armor wire layer comprising a plurality of strength members and surrounding the cable core, and at least a second armor wire layer comprising a plurality of strength members surrounding the first armor wire layer, the second armor wire layer covering a predetermined percentage of the circumference of the first armor wire layer to prevent torque imbalance in the cable.
Abstract:
A composite reinforcer that can adhere directly to a diene rubber matrix is usable as a reinforcing element for a pneumatic tire. The composite reinforcer includes at least one reinforcing thread, such as a carbon steel cord. Covering each thread individually or several threads collectively is a layer of a thermoplastic polymer composition. The thermoplastic polymer composition includes at least one thermoplastic polymer have a glass transition temperature that is positive, a poly(p-phenylene ether) (PPE), and a functionalized unsaturated thermoplastic styrene (TPS) elastomer having a glass transition temperature that is negative. The TPS elastomer includes a functional group selected from: an epoxide group, a carboxyl group, an acid anhydride group, and an ester group. A process for manufacturing such a composite reinforcer is presented, as well as a process for producing a rubber article, especially a pneumatic tire, incorporating such a composite reinforcer.
Abstract:
In a method for manufacturing a cable, a filling step S5 of filling a tube hole of a socket main body which is formed in a tubular shape and in which first end portions of wire rods are disposed with a mixture obtained by mixing a thermosetting resin into a preliminary mixture obtained by mixing ceramic particles and fly ash in advance is carried out.
Abstract:
Multistrand metal cable of 4×(4+M) construction, which can especially be used for reinforcing tire belts for industrial vehicles, formed from four elementary strands assembled in a helix with a helix pitch P3, each elementary strand consisting of a two-layer cable of 4+M construction comprising an inner layer C1 formed from four wires of diameter D1, assembled in a helix with a pitch P1, and an unsaturated outer layer C2 of M wires, M being greater than or equal to 8 and smaller than or equal to 11, of diameter D2, these being assembled in a helix with a pitch P2 around the inner layer C1, P1 being smaller than P2, the four wires of the inner layer C1 being wound in a helix in the same twist direction as the M wires of the outer layer C2, and wherein each of the diameters D1 and D2 is greater than or equal to 0.10 mm but less than or equal to 0.50 mm.
Abstract:
A method for manufacturing a flexible composite belt or cable, in the method, one or more parallel reinforced plastic profiles (11) are manufactured by pultrusion, continuous lamination or other continuous method. After surface treatment, the reinforced plastic profiles (11) are guided at a short distance from one another to coating treatment, which is carried out by extrusion or lamination or pultrusion. in the coating treatment, the reinforced plastic profiles are enveloped with a coating material (12) improving wear resistance which joins the reinforced plastic profiles (11) together and forms the coating of a finished belt or cable (10). Finally, the finished belt or cable (10) is wound on a reel.
Abstract:
Method of manufacturing a multi-layer metal cord having a plurality of concentric layers of wires, comprising one or more inner layer(s) and an outer layer, of the type “rubberized in situ. The method includes the following steps: at least one step of sheathing at least one inner layer with the rubber or the rubber composition by passing through at least one extrusion head; and an assembling step in which the wires of the outer layer are assembled around the inner layer adjacent to it, in order to form the multi-layer cord thus rubberized from the inside. The rubber is an unsaturated thermoplastic elastomer extruded in the molten state, preferably a thermoplastic elastomer of the thermoplastic stirene (TPS) elastomer type such as an SBS, SBBS, SIS or SBIS block copolymer for example.
