    摘要: A process is provided for manufacturing blanks comprising the production of a batch of fiber-reinforced synthetic resin compound, the production of a piece of fiber mat, depositing the batch of compound onto the piece of fiber mat, and conveying them together into a press for molding them together. In such a process, the initial step of producing the fiber-reinforced synthetic resin compounds and in producing the fiber mat is the production of a running length of fiber, which is then either cut and combined with resin compounds for the production of the noted batches, or placed on a conveyor and combined with additional compound; the process includes operating the fiber producing apparatus and delivering the fibers produced to a cutting means of the equipment for producing the fiber-reinforced synthetic resin compounds for a first period of time and then delivering the fiber to the conveyor for the production of a fiber mat for a second period of time.Apparatus is provided comprising means for producing continuous lengths of mono filament, a molding plant for receiving mono filament, cutting it into short lengths, and combining it with resin compounds, and then forming batches of fiber-reinforced compound under compression; means for producing resin bonded fiber mats comprising a conveyor belt for receiving mono filament and for depositing resin thereon, for cutting pieces of mat from the mat thereby produced, associating batches of fiber-reinforced compound with pieces of the fiber mat, and delivering the fiber mat pieces together with the synthetic resin compound batches on them to a molding press.

    摘要: This invention is directed to a process of forming composites comprising reinforcing fibers dispersed in a thermoplastic polymer matrix, said process comprising the steps of coating a reinforcing fiber with a curable resin and an initiator for the curing of the resin and for the polymerization of monomer of said polymer; curing said resin to form cured resin coated fiber; coating said resin coated fiber with monomer of said polymer; polymerizing the monomer coating to form a polymer/resin coated fiber; and aligning the polymer/resin coated fiber and molding same into a desired reinforced thermoplastic composite.

    摘要: A series of filaments are grouped into rovings (10), with each roving being impregnated with a viscous, tacky resin binder. The rovings are guided (12, 14, 16) to and compressed against a mandrel (18). By controlling intraroving spacing and compression force, the rovings are compressed such that their lateral expansion results in adjacent roving bonding, whereby a singular band (22) of defined width, height and filament count is formed. The height and width is controlled by varying the compression force and the intraroving spacing. Band contouring is realized by severing (24, 26) selected rovings prior to band formation. Linear and rotational relative motion is provided (FIG. 11: 110, 112, 114) between the roving guiding and compression means and the mandrel to precisely orient the band.
