Abstract:
Sulfurized Mannich condensation products, made from phenolic compounds, aldehydes and amines, which have been further treated with elemental sulfur are improved additives for lubricants.
Abstract:
A lubricating oil composition is described which comprises a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity and(A) at least about 1% by weight of at least one carboxylic derivative composition produced by reacting(A-1) at least one substituted succinic acylating agent containing at least about 50 carbon atoms in the substituent with(A-2) from about 0.5 equivalent up to about 2 moles, per equivalent of acylating agent (A-1), of at least one amine compound characterized by the presence within its structure of at least one HN
Abstract:
Additive combinations useful in lubricating compositions containing a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity are described. The additive compositions comprise a mixture of at least one alkyl phenol and at least one amino phenol, each having at least one hydrocarbon-based group of at least about 10 aliphatic carbon atoms. The additive compositions also are useful in fuel-lubricant mixtures for use in two-cycle internal combustion engines. Generally, the additive combinations also will contain a detergent/dispersant.
Abstract:
Sulfur-containing, oil-soluble compositions are described which are useful as lubricating oil additives, particularly in lubricants containing little or no phosphorus. In one embodiment, the compositions of the invention comprise (A) at least one metal salt of at least one dithiocarbamic acid of the formulaR.sub.1 (R.sub.2)N--CSSH (I)wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are each independently hydrocarbyl groups in which the total number of carbon atoms in R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 is sufficient to render the metal salt oil-soluble, (B) at least one oil-soluble sulfurized organic compound, and (C) at least one auxiliary corrosion-inhibitor. In other embodiments, the compositions also contain (D) at least one detergent/dispersant. Lubricating oil compositions containing the compositions of the invention exhibit improved oxidation-corrosion-inhibiting properties, anti-wear properties, and/or extreme pressure properties. Such lubricating compositions containing less than about 0.1% by weight of phosphorus also exhibit good compatability with nitrile seals.
Abstract:
Lubricating oil compositions containing less than about 0.1% by weight of phosphorus are described, and these lubricating compositions comprise a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity, and a minor amount of at least one oil-soluble sulfur-containing material which comprises the reaction product of sulfur and a Diels-Alder adduct in a molar ratio less than 1.7:1 wherein the adduct is an adduct of at least one dienophile with at least one aliphatic conjugated diene. Such lubricating oil compositions exhibit improved oxidation-corrosion-inhibiting properties, anti-wear properties, and/or extreme pressure properties. Such lubricating compositions also exhibit improved compatibility with nitrile seals.
Abstract:
Nitrogen-containing compositions made by condensing a nitro phenol with an organic amino compound having at least one hydrogen atom directly bonded to a nitrogen or oxygen atom are useful as additives for lubricants and fuels. A specific embodiment comprises compositions made by reacting nitro phenols having hydrocarbyl substituents of up to 750 aliphatic carbon atoms with alkylene polyamines.
Abstract:
Nitrogen- and sulfur-containing compositions are prepared by reacting an oil-soluble dispersant with a dimercaptothiadiazole such as 2,5-dimercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole and subsequently reacting the intermediate thus formed with a carboxylic acid or anhydride containing up to about 10 carbon atoms and having at least one olefinic bond. The preferred carboxylic acid or anhydride is maleic anhydride. The compositions thus obtained are useful in lubricants as dispersants, extreme pressure agents, corrosion inhibitors and inhibitors of copper activity and "lead paint" deposition.
