Abstract:
A semiconductor includes first quantum dots and second quantum dots of a lesser amount, which are dispersed throughout the first quantum dots. The second quantum dots have a different size or composition than the first quantum dots such that the second quantum dots have a first exciton peak wavelength longer than a first exciton peak wavelength of the first quantum dots. The quantum dot layer includes a valence band, a conduction band, and an intermediate band having an energy level within a bandgap between the valence band and the conduction band. The quantum dots may be solution processed. The semiconductor may be utilized to form an electronic heterojunction, and optoelectronic devices including the electronic heterojunction.
Abstract:
Integrated upconversion devices capable of upconverting incident visible to short wavelength infrared photons to visible photons are disclosed. The device may include a quantum dot-based photodiode and a light-emitting diode. The device may further include a gain element such as a thin-film transistor.
Abstract:
Described herein are processes for converting a biomass starting material (such as lignocellulosic materials) into a low oxygen containing, stable liquid intermediate that can be refined to make liquid hydrocarbon fuels. More specifically, the process can be a catalytic biomass pyrolysis process wherein an oxygen removing catalyst is employed in the reactor while the biomass is subjected to pyrolysis conditions. The stream exiting the pyrolysis reactor comprises bio-oil having a low oxygen content, and such stream may be subjected to further steps, such as separation and/or condensation to isolate the bio-oil.
Abstract:
Compounds and compositions for promoting smoking cessation or decreasing tobacco use or nicotine addiction are provided. The compounds are 2′-fluoro-3′-(substituted phenyl) deschloroepibatidine analogs. The compounds have been found to modulate neuronal nicotine acetylcholine receptors and are useful in methods for the treatment of conditions or disorders influenced by the modulation of neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptors.
Abstract:
A gas processing device such as an aerosol exposure monitor is configured for acquiring chronic data, acute data, or both simultaneously, and may include a pump and a noise dampening device. The noise dampening device may include an elastomeric membrane between an inlet chamber and an outlet chamber. In another aspect, an aerosol exposure monitor may include an impactor, a collection filter, and a nephelometer that includes a sample chamber integrated with an aerosol flow path associated with the impactor and collection filter.
Abstract:
An electrode for solar conversion including a porous structure configured to contain therein at least one of an electrolyte, a catalyst, a chromophore, a redox couple, a hole-conducting polymer, an electron-conducting polymer, a semiconducting organic conjugated polymer, an electron acceptor, and a hole acceptor. The porous structure has a set of electrically conductive nanoparticles adjoining each other. The set of electrically conductive nanoparticles forms a meandering electrical path connecting the nanoparticles together. The porous structure has a semiconductive coating disposed conformally on the electrically conductive nanoparticles to form an exterior surface for reception of charge carriers.
Abstract:
Low temperature bond balls connect two structures having disparate coefficients of linear thermal expansion. An integrated circuit is made to heat the device such that the low temperature bond balls melt. After melting, the bond balls solidify, and the device is operated with the bond balls solidified. In one example, one of the two structures is a semiconductor substrate, and the other structure is a printed circuit board. The integrated circuit is a die mounted to the semiconductor substrate. The bond balls include at least five percent indium, and the integrated circuit is an FPGA loaded with a bit stream. The bit stream configures the FPGA such that the FPGA has increased power dissipation, which melts the balls. After the melting, a second bit stream is loaded into the FPGA and the FPGA is operated in a normal user-mode using the second bit stream.
