Abstract:
A process for preparing derivatized poly(4-hydroxystryrene) having a novolak type structure which comprises the steps of (i) supplying a solution of methanol containing 4-hydroxyphenylmethylcarbinol, (ii) subjecting said solution to an acid catalyzed displacement reaction for a sufficient period of time and under suitable conditions of temperature and pressure to convert substantially all of said carbinol to 4-hydroxyphenylmethylcarbinol methyl ether in solution, (iii) polymerizing said ether containing solution in the presence of a suitable acid catalyst for a sufficient period of time and under suitable conditions of temperature and pressure to form a novolak type polymer. New compositions of matter which comprise the derivatized poly(4-hydroxystyrene) prepared in the above manner and which have application in the electronic chemicals market such as in a photoresist composition, and in other areas such as in varnishes, printing inks, epoxy resins, copying paper, tackifiers for rubber, crude oil separators, and the like.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a coating composition for forming an anti-reflective coating layer for a display device, comprising a fluorinated silane with low surface tension, a conductive polymer with antistatic properties, water, and a solvent. Thus, the coating film of the present invention prepared by coating the composition has high anti-reflection, excellent stain resistance to liquid-phase stains such as fingerprints and the solid-phase stains such as dust by controlling the refractive index, surface energy, and conductivity, and thus can be usefully applied to the outermost side of a display device, regardless of the type of substrates such as a Braun tube or a flat display film and the presence of other coating layers such as a hard coating layer and an anti-glare coating layer.

A metal treatment solution comprising an effective amount of a soluble or dispersible compound which is a derivative of a polyphenol. A composition for treatment and after treatment of metal with polyphenol compounds is provided. The present invention includes novel derivatives of polyphenol compounds which are useful in surface treatment solutions or dispersions. A method for using these solutions or dispersions is also provided. The molecular weight of the polyphenols used to form the derivatives of the present invention are in the range of from about 360 to 30,000 or greater. The resulting derivatives of the present invention typically have a molecular weight of up to about 2,000,000 with molecular weights within the range of about 700 to about 70,000 being preferred.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a magnetic recording medium, (1) in which a magnetic layer is formed by coating a magnetic paint containing a magnetic powder and a binder as its main components on a non-magnetic base material; (2) which is featured by containing as said binder a polymer having an alkenyl phenol as one of the components of the polymer; and (3) which has markedly improved effects in the dispersibility of the magnetic powder in said medium and in the abrasion resistance and flexibility of the magnetic layer.
