The invention provides a class of photochromic polydiorganosiloxane vinylic crosslinkers. Each of the photochromic polydiorganosiloxane vinylic crosslinkers of the invention comprise (1) a polydiorganosiloxane polymer chain comprising dimethylsiloxane units and photochromic siloxane unit having one methyl substituent and one organic substituent having a photochromic moiety that capable of undergoing a reversible color change upon exposure to UV-irradiation or high-energy-violet light; (2) two terminal ethylenically-unsaturated groups. The invention also provides a soft photochromic contact lens, especially a photochromic silicone hydrogel contact lens, which comprises a crosslinked polymeric material comprising repeating units of at least one of such a class of photochromic polydiorganosiloxane vinylic crosslinkers. The invention further provides a method of producing a photochromic contact lens from a polymerizable composition comprising at least one of such a class of photochromic polydiorganosiloxane vinylic crosslinkers.

Gradient refractive index lenses (GRI-Ls) and methods of fabricating the same are provided. GRI-Ls can be fabricated by stereolithography (SLA) and/or photo-assisted, thermal-assisted, and/or other laser-based curing from at least two precursors with a preset refractive index gradation along the planar axis. These lenses are self-focusing lenses and may be convergent or divergent for decreasing and increasing refractive indices from the center, respectively. Rather than a gradation in lens thickness from the center, the GRI-Ls can have a gradation of composition from the center.

The anti-glare film is a continuous film that contains transparent inorganic fine particles in an inorganic binder, and is free of cracks. The anti-glare film preferably has an average thickness d1 of 500 nm to 2000 nm, and a maximum surface height Ry1 of 1000 nm to 10000 nm. The inorganic binder is preferably composed mainly of silicon oxide containing Si—O bonds obtained by the hydrolysis of Si—H bonds and Si—N bonds. The inorganic fine particles are non-spherical particles having ground surfaces, and preferably have an average primary particle size, calculated from cross-sectional observations of the anti-glare film, of 0.1 μm to 5.0 μm.
