    Abstract: The reciprocating engine comprises a rocker valve gear, pistons (1) which are fastened to a connecting rod (2) and connected by crankshaft journals (3) to a crankshaft (4), a balancer (5), and a camshaft (10) which is driven by the crankshaft (4) and in turn actuates rockers (11), the mentioned elements being arranged in a crankcase having a cylinder head (24) and cylinder head cover (14). For substantially easier assembly and maintenance, the cylinder head (24) is provided with integrally cast or screwed-on receivers (16) serving for the attachment of the hollow camshaft (10) without requiring separately fastened bearing blocks. Correspondingly, the cylinder head (24) comprises further integrally cast or screwed-on receivers (15, 15-A, 25) which serve for the attachment of the hollow rockers (11) without requiring separately fastened bearing blocks. According to another embodiment of the invention, the camshaft (10), the tensioning wheel (7), and the counter-rotating balancer (5) are driven by the camshaft (4) through a single chain (8) arranged in line with the camshaft, thus allowing a compact construction.

An exhaust system communicates with the combustion chamber through an exhaust port. Intake and exhaust valves move between an opening position and a closing position of the intake port and the exhaust port, respectively. A camshaft actuates either the intake valve or the exhaust valve. The camshaft extends generally vertically. A camshaft cover member encloses the camshaft together with an engine body of the engine. The camshaft cover member defines a slot through which a tool can pass. The tool can prevent the camshaft from rotating.

    Abstract: In a rockable-cam equipped reciprocating internal combustion engine, a rockable cam is rotatably fitted on the outer periphery of an intake-valve drive shaft that is rotatable in synchronism with rotation of a crankshaft. The rockable cam oscillates within predetermined limits during rotation of the intake-valve drive shaft so as to directly push an intake-valve lifter. As viewed from an axial direction of the crankshaft, an axis of the intake-valve drive shaft is offset from a centerline of the intake-valve stem in a first direction that is normal to both the cylinder centerline and the crankshaft axis and directed from the cylinder centerline to the intake valve side.     Abstract: An engine cylinder head in which a water jacket and an EGR passage are formed therein, the EGR passage opening into an exhaust passage at one end and opening into a side of an intake side at the other end thereof, the engine cylinder being characterized in that the EGR passage is provided outwardly in a cylinder arrangement direction of head bolt pass-through holes formed in one end of the engine cylinder head in the cylinder arrangement direction.     Abstract: Internal combustion engine with fuel injection directly into the combustion chamber of the engine. The engine has inlet channels, the angle of incidence (valve angle) (&agr;) of which is greater than 20° relative to the longitudinal axis of the cylinder chamber. The piston tops are made, firstly, with a surface portion inclined relative to a plane normal to the longitudinal axis of the cylinder chamber by an angle (&ggr;) equal to or less than the angle of incidence of the inlet channel, and, secondly, with a cavity connected to the inclined surface portion. By interaction between the angle of incidence of the inlet channels and the shape of the piston tops, there is generated in the combustion chambers a primary vortical movement in the inlet air about an axis perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the cylinder chamber. The primary vortical movement generates a secondary vortical movement in the opposite direction in the piston cavity.
