Abstract: A skill-scoring system suitable for use on an automated vehicle includes an accelerometer and a controller. The accelerometer is used to determine an acceleration-value experienced by an operator of a host-vehicle while the operator operates the host-vehicle in a manual-mode along a travel-path. The controller is in communication with the accelerometer. The controller is configured to determine a skill-score based on a comparison of the acceleration-value to an expected-acceleration that the operator would experience when the host-vehicle is operated in an automated-mode along the travel-path.

Abstract: A method for processing high dynamic range data from a nonlinear camera includes; generating an input image comprising a plurality of pixels, each pixel having an initial pixel value, wherein the initial pixel values are generated using a camera transition curve; generating a first lookup table representing a combination of an inverse function and a re-compression function, the first lookup table having input values and output values, wherein each input value is linked to one output value, the inverse function is the inverse of the camera transition curve, the re-compression function is a smooth and continuous function having a slope at each input value which is greater than or equal to a corresponding slope of the camera transition curve, the first lookup table is generated such that the inverse function precedes the re-compression function; and generating a first image by converting the initial pixel values using the first lookup table.

Abstract: A conflict-resolution system for operating an automated vehicle includes an intersection detector, a vehicle-detection device, and a controller. The intersection detector is suitable to mount on a host-vehicle. The detector used to determine when the host-vehicle is stopped at or approaches an intersection. The vehicle-detection device is suitable to mount on the host-vehicle. The device is used to detect when an other-vehicle has stopped at or approaches the intersection at the same instant as the host-vehicle. The controller is in communication with the detector and the device. The controller is configured to determine a wait-time for the host-vehicle to wait before attempting to proceed into the intersection when right-of-way rules are unable to determine when the host-vehicle should proceed into the intersection.

Abstract: A fuel system for an internal combustion engine includes an electric fuel pump; a conduit which defines a flow path through which fuel flows from the electric fuel pump to the internal combustion engine; a fuel pump control module with electronics which drive the electric fuel pump, the fuel pump control module being disposed within a compartment defined by a wall; and a heat sink in thermal contact with the fuel pump control module and extending out of the compartment through an aperture of the wall and into the flow path such that the heat sink is sealed to the wall, thereby preventing fluid communication through the aperture.

Abstract: A GDCI engine recirculates exhaust gases to a combustion chamber using desired early injection parameters for a steady state engine operation from a controller. An engine control system detects a load increase relative to the steady state engine operation, and insufficient recirculated exhaust gases to the combustion chamber are delivered in response to the detected load increase as a result of transport delays. A last fuel injection into the combustion chamber during an engine cycle with multiple fuel injections is delayed as compared to the steady state engine operation. Combustion phasing within the combustion chamber is retarded in response to the delayed injection.

Abstract: A system for changing a control-mode of an automated vehicle from automated-control to manual-control includes an operator-detection device and a controller. The operator-detection device is operable to detect a readiness-state of an operator of a vehicle while a control-mode of the vehicle is automated-control. The controller is configured to forecast a future-time when the control-mode of the vehicle should change from automated-control to manual-control and determine a take-over-interval for an operator to assume manual-control of the vehicle once notified. The take-over-interval is determined based on the readiness-state. The controller is also configured to notify the operator that the control-mode of the vehicle should change from automated-control to manual-control no later than the take-over-interval prior to the future-time.

Abstract: An electrical charging system configured to wirelessly charge an energy storage device, such as a battery. The charging system includes an off-transducer in electrical communication with an alternating power source and electromagnetically coupled to an on-vehicle transducer connected to the energy storage device. A controller adjusts a variable frequency oscillator within the power transmitter, thereby changing the frequency of the sourced electrical power. The charging system further includes a phase detection circuit in communication with the controller and the off-transducer and configured to determine a phase difference between the alternating voltage and the alternating current supplied by the power source. The controller is configured to adjust the variable frequency oscillator based on the phase difference such that the frequency of the sourced electrical power maintains the phase difference within a desired range.

Abstract: An electrical charging system configured to charge a battery includes a power transmitter, an energy coupling arrangement, an electrical signal shaping device including a controller, and an alignment means. The arrangement includes a first inductive coil disposed external to the vehicle and a second inductive coil attached with the vehicle. The alignment means communicates with the vehicle to ensure repeatable vehicle positioning so that the second inductive coil is positioned relative to the first inductive coil so that the second inductive coil receives the energy produced by the power transmitter wirelessly transmitted from the first inductive coil. The energy received by the second inductive coil is electrically shaped by the electrical signal shaping device and further transmitted through the electrical signal shaping device as controlled by the controller to charge the battery. Methods for transmitting energy through the electrical charging system to charge the battery are also presented.

Abstract: A connector system including a first connector body, a second connector body configured to mate with the first connector body, a locking feature configured to secure the second connector body to the first connector body, and a connector position assurance (CPA) device that, when engaged, inhibits operation of the locking feature. A portion of the second connector body and the CPA device cooperate to form a box to completely enclose the locking feature, thereby inhibiting disengagement of the CPA device from the locking feature. The CPA device has a flexible lock arm configured to secure the CPA device to the second connector body. A portion of the CPA lock arm may be configured to be frangible. The second connector body and/or the CPA device may define an aperture configured to provide access to the CPA lock arm. The aperture is at least partially blocked by a frangible tab.
