Abstract: A garment can be manufactured by bonding an adhesive to a first layer of fabric and a second layer of fabric. Holes are cut into each layer of fabric to accommodate the integration of sensors and a processing unit mount. Conductive thread embroidered onto a support layer is bonded to the adhesive of the second layer of fabric. The support layer is removed such that the conductive thread remains bonded to the adhesive. The layers of fabric are bonded together such that the conductive thread is coupled between the two layers of adhesive. A back plate is added to the layers of fabric to provide structural support for the mount. The conductive thread is exposed within each hole, and the mount and sensors can be coupled within the holes such that an electrical connection is established between the mount and at least one sensor via the conductive thread.

Abstract: Certain embodiments comprise an implantable probe for rapid measurement of multiple neurochemicals on the cellular scale in the brain. Rapid detection of multiple chemicals in vivo (animal or humans) may provide an improved understanding of acute changes in neurochemicals that occur over several seconds. The neurotransmitter chemical sensing platform may provide for continuous in vivo sensing in trials of psychoactive drugs in the laboratory animal market. The high spatial resolution of the probe may allow for chemical detection around small groups of neurons, which may help to isolate the endogenous activity of different neuron types due to disease states. Neurochemical detection may also be used to measure tissue response to exogenous stimuli, such as pharmacodynamics of drugs. The high temporal and spatial resolutions and multi-neurochemical sensing of the probe may allow for detailed studies on in vivo brain response to both endogenous and exogenous stimuli.

Abstract: A multi-electrode array with individually isolated electrodes each configurable for a target-containing carrier and a method for fabricating the array are disclosed. In an exemplary embodiment, the array includes a substrate; and a plurality of electrodes disposed on the substrate. Each electrode of the plurality of electrodes has a conductive tip-end and an insulated remainder. A first electrode of the plurality of electrodes has a first configuration selected to bring a conductive tip end of the first electrode in proximity to a first target structure, and a second electrode of the plurality of electrodes has a second configuration selected to bring a conductive tip end of the second electrode in proximity to a second target structure. The first configuration and the second configuration are different. A first contact of the plurality of contacts may be electrically coupled to the first electrode through the substrate.

Abstract: The invention provides an implantable membrane for regulating the transport of analytes therethrough that includes a matrix including a first polymer; and a second polymer dispersed throughout the matrix, wherein the second polymer forms a network of microdomains which when hydrated are not observable using photomicroscopy at 400× magnification or less. In one aspect, the homogeneous membrane of the present invention has hydrophilic domains dispersed substantially throughout a hydrophobic matrix to provide an optimum balance between oxygen and glucose transport to an electrochemical glucose sensor.

Abstract: A medical sensor device includes a sensor assembly including an underside surface for attachment against a patient's skin, a sensor portion to detect a characteristic of the patient, and sensor assembly contacts which in operation carry signals representing the detected characteristic. The device also includes a transmitter assembly removably engageable with the sensor assembly and including circuitry to take the signals from the sensor assembly contacts and to transmit readings of the detected characteristic to external equipment. The device also includes mechanical interface components on the sensor assembly and the transmitter assembly which allow the transmitter assembly to be brought into abutment with the sensor assembly at a first angular position via relative axial movement between them, and then allow a relative rotation of the assemblies with respect to one another towards a second angular position and presents axial separation of the assemblies in the second angular position.

Abstract: A disposable self-powered biomedical sensor comprises a printed wet electrode on a substrate sheet. The wet electrode is provided with an electrolyte element to enhance the electrical contact with a surface to be measured. Moreover, a printed battery encapsulated in a hermetically sealed compartment is provided on the substrate sheet. The disposable self-powered sensor can be stored within an enclosure or a package which provides a proper atmosphere to prevent the drying of the electrolyte and prolong the shelf life of the sensors.
