摘要:
A honeycomb structure includes aluminum titanate and cell walls. The cell walls extend along a longitudinal direction of the honeycomb structure to form a plurality of cells between the cell walls. A porosity of the honeycomb structure is from about 40% to about 60%. In a binary image of substrate portions and pore portions of each of the cell walls, an area ratio (%) of the pore portions to a whole area in a rectangularly-divided image is in a range from (the porosity−about 25%) to (the porosity+about 25%). The binary image is converted from a microscopic image of a cross section of each of the cell walls in parallel with the longitudinal direction. The rectangularly-divided image is formed by dividing the binary image in a direction parallel to a thickness direction of each of the cell walls at a predetermined width.

An object of the present invention is to provide a honeycomb structural body with a long service life, which can reduce a pressure loss to a low level upon collecting particulates and maintain the pressure loss at the low level for a long time even after regenerating processes. The honeycomb structural body includes a columnar porous ceramic block in which a large number of through holes are placed in parallel with one another in the length direction with a wall portion interposed therebetween. Herein, the large number of through holes are constituted by a group of large-capacity through holes, each of which is sealed at one end of the honeycomb structural body so that the total sum of the areas on a cross section perpendicular to the length direction is made relatively great, and a group of small-capacity through holes, each of which is sealed at the other end of the honeycomb structural body so that the total sum of the areas on the cross section is made relatively small, and a surface roughness Ry of the wall face of the through hole is set in a range from 10 to 100 μm.

A honeycomb structure includes a honeycomb unit which has zeolite, inorganic binder, and cell walls extending from one end to another end along a longitudinal direction of the honeycomb unit to define cells. An amount of zeolite contained per apparent unit volume of the honeycomb unit is approximately 230 g/L or more. Mathematical formulae [1] and [2] are satisfied when a thickness of the cell walls is defined as X mm and an average pore diameter of a surface of the cell walls observed by a microscope is defined as Y μm: X+0.07≦Y≦X+0.27 [1] approximately 0.15≦X≦approximately 0.35 [2].

A honeycomb structure includes a first end face, a second end face, a honeycomb unit, and an ammonia adsorbing material. The second end face is located opposite to the first end face along a longitudinal direction of the honeycomb structure. The honeycomb unit has plural cell walls extending along the longitudinal direction from the first end face to the second end face to define plural cells. The cell walls include a NOx adsorbing material and an inorganic binder. The ammonia adsorbing material is supported on the cell walls. An amount of the ammonia adsorbing material supported on the cell walls is varied between the first end face and the second end face.

A honeycomb structure includes large-volume cells and small-volume cells with a cell wall therebetween; a plug sealing at either one of end portions of the cells; and a catalyst supported on the cell wall. The large-volume cell has a larger cross-sectional area perpendicular to its longitudinal direction than that of the small-volume cell. The large-volume cell is sealed at one end portion of the honeycomb structure, while the small-volume cell is sealed at the other end portion of the honeycomb structure. The catalyst is supported only on the cell walls forming the large-volume cells, or on both of the cell walls forming said large-volume cells and the cell walls forming said small-volume cells. An amount of the catalyst supported on the cell walls forming the large-volume cells is larger per unit volume than that on the cell walls forming the small-volume cells.

A honeycomb structure includes an inorganic particle, inorganic binder, a honeycomb unit, a first end face, and a second end face. The honeycomb unit includes plural partition walls extending along a longitudinal direction of the honeycomb unit to define through-holes. The first end face is substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal direction and provided at a first end of the honeycomb structure. The second end face is substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal direction and provided at a second end opposite to the first end in the longitudinal direction of the honeycomb structure. First circularity of the first end face and second circularity of the second end face are about 1.5 mm to about 4.0 mm. The circularity of the first end face is different from the circularity of the second end face.

A honeycomb structure includes a plurality of pillar-shaped honeycomb fired bodies bound with one another by interposing a adhesive layer. Each of the honeycomb fired bodies has a large number of cells longitudinally placed in parallel with one another with a cell wall therebetween. An adhesive strength A between central portion honeycomb fired bodies out of the honeycomb fired bodies measured by a three-point bending strength test is at least about 0.02 and at most about 0.2 MPa. The central portion honeycomb fired bodies are positioned at a central portion of a cross-section formed by cutting the honeycomb structure perpendicularly to the longitudinal direction. The adhesive strength A is lower than an adhesive strength B between peripheral portion honeycomb fired bodies out of the honeycomb fired bodies measured by the three-point bending strength test. The peripheral portion honeycomb fired bodies form a part of a periphery the honeycomb structure.

An exhaust gas treating apparatus includes an upstream honeycomb structure and a downstream honeycomb structure each provided along an exhaust gas flowing direction of the exhaust gas treating apparatus. Each of the plurality of honeycomb structures includes at least one honeycomb unit includes zeolite, an inorganic binder, and walls. A first ratio of weight of zeolite ion-exchanged with at least one of Cu, Mn, Ag, and V in the downstream honeycomb structure is greater than a first ratio of weight of zeolite ion-exchanged with at least one of Cu, Mn, Ag, and V in the upstream honeycomb structure. A second ratio of weight of zeolite ion-exchanged with at least one of Fe, Ti, and Co in the upstream honeycomb structure is greater than a second ratio of weight of the zeolite ion-exchanged with at least one of Fe, Ti, and Co in the downstream honeycomb structure.
