摘要:
An apparatus for treating cardiovascular diseases includes an expandable support member having oppositely disposed proximal and distal end portions and a main body portion between the end portions for positioning in a blood vessel. The proximal end portion of the expandable support member includes a plurality of wing members that extend from the main body portion. Each of the wing members is for engaging at least a portion of an antrum of a cardiac chamber surrounding the blood vessel. At least a portion of the expandable support member is treated with at least one therapeutic agent for eluting into the blood vessel, the cardiac chamber, and/or cardiac tissue. The expandable support member is made of wire-mesh, and at least a portion of the expandable support member may be made of a bioabsorbable material.

The present invention relates to implantable medical devices for delivery of therapeutic agents, such as drugs, to a patient. More particularly, the invention relates to a device having therapeutic agents protected by a protective layer that prevents or retards processes that deactivate or degrade the active agents.

An erodible prosthesis comprising alternate rates of erosion is disclosed, wherein said alternate rates of erosion can be selectively initiated. Some embodiments according to the invention may comprise an agent for initiating an alternative rate of erosion, such as, for example, a sensitizer, dissolution inhibitor, photo-acid generator, biochemically active additive, thermally activated catalyst, light activated catalyst, electromagnetic radiation activated catalyst, hydration activated catalyst, pH activated catalyst, low melting agent, and/or enzyme activated catalyst. One or more of the foregoing agents may be dispersed within one or more layers.

Implantable prosthetic devices are provided for controlled drug delivery, for orthopedic and dental applications. The device may include a prosthetic device body having at least one outer surface area; two or more discrete reservoirs located in spaced apart positions across at least a portion of the outer surface area, the reservoirs formed with an opening at the surface of the device body and extending into the device body; and a release system disposed in the reservoirs which comprises at least one therapeutic or prophylactic agent, wherein following implantation into a patient the therapeutic or prophylactic agent is released in a controlled manner from the reservoirs. The prosthetic device body preferably is a joint prosthesis or part thereof, such as a hip prosthesis, a knee prosthesis, a vertebral or spinal disc prosthesis, or part thereof. Optional reservoir caps may further control release kinetics.

The invention provides orthopedic implants which are at least partially absorbable. The implants of the invention may include a biocompatible material in the form of a ring, which may be used in combination with a second, more porous, absorbable material. This second material may be a continuous body or discontinuous. The implant may also include a first material connected to a full or partial wedge of a second material, the wedge being connected to the inner surface of the more dense material. Suitable materials for the first and second materials include, but are not limited to, resorbable polymer composites. The implants of the invention may also include plates for anchoring of the implant.
