A process for producing a polycarbodiimide resin powder, which includes reacting an organic diisocyanate in the presence of a carbodiimidization catalyst in a solvent to produce a polycarbodiimide resin and obtaining the resin in a powder form, where the organic diisocyanate is represented by the following formula ##STR1## where R.sub.1 is a lower alkyl group or a lower alkoxyl group, or ##STR2## where R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are independently a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group or a lower alkoxyl group, and X is an oxygen atom or a methylene group, or ##STR3## where R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 are independently a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group or a lower alkoxyl group; the solvent is a mixed solvent of a good solvent to polycarbodiimide resin and a poor solvent to the resin, having a precipitation number of 30-80; and when the reaction has reached a certain stage, the reaction system is cooled to make the system a slurry of a polycarbodiimide, and then the polycarbodiimide is obtained in a powder form.

The present invention provides an insulating material for the enameled wire of a motor of a refrigeration compressor using hydrofluorocarbons as the refrigerant and, as the refrigerating machine oil, a synthetic lubricating oil having at least one ester bond in a molecule such as ester-modified polyoxyalkylene glycol type, ester-modified ether type or ester type, which insulating material contains a compound having at least one carbodiimide group.This insulating material for the enameled wire of a motor of a refrigeration compressor, which is free from the above-mentioned problems of the prior art, which can prevent the surface deterioration or peeling (blister or cracking) etc. seen in the conventional insulating material used for covering the enameled wire (e.g. magnet wire) of a refrigeration compressor, caused by a mixture of the hydrofluorocarbons and the synthetic lubricating oil both used in the compressor, which invites neither insulation breakdown nor reduction in insulation and has improved resistances to said substitute flon and said synthetic lubricating oil, and which further can impart deterioration resistance to the synthetic lubricating oil.

The present invention provides an insulating film for use in the motor of a refrigeration compressor using a substitute flon and a refrigerating machine oil in particular combination, which film is obtained by adding to a base film, or coating on the surface of a base film, a compound having at least one carbodiimide group, or, which film is made essentially of a compound having at least one carbodiimide group, represented by the following formula (1): ##STR1## or the following formula (2): ##STR2## or the following formula (3): ##STR3## or the following formula (4): ##STR4## This insulating film can eliminate the problems of the prior art, has excellent resistance to hydrolysis and forms no sludge, resultantly can prevent reduction in insulating property, and further has deterioration resistance to refrigerating machine oil.

The present invention provides a sheet material including at least an inorganic filler other than asbestos, a polycarbodiimide resin, a rubber having a functional group reactive with a carbodiimide group and, as necessary, an organic or inorganic fiber, or such a sheet material wherein the polycarbodiimide resin and the rubber have been reacted with each other at least partially. A process for producing the sheet material includes making into a sheet-shaped material a composition comprising at least an inorganic filler other than asbestos, a polycarbodiimide resin, a rubber having a functional group reactive with a carbodiimide group and, as necessary, an organic or inorganic fiber, and then heating the sheet-shaped material at a temperature not lower than the softening point of said polycarbodiimide resin, or such a process wherein the heating of the sheet-shaped material at said temperature gives rise to at least partial reaction between the polycarbodiimide resin and the rubber. Said sheet material uses no asbestos fiber and yet exhibits excellent flexibility, sealing property, strength, chemical resistance and heat resistance; and can be used as a gasket having excellent resistance particularly to fluorocarbon refrigerants and oils used in the apparatuses using said refrigerants.

The device is provided with a rotating body held rotatably; and a covering rotating body installed on the outer side of the rotating body so as to enclose the same, held rotatably and coaxially with the rotating body. Further, optional plural numbers of the covering rotating bodies installed coaxially with the rotating body and covering the outer side of the device for rotating body windage loss reduction are provided on top of each other in sequence. The present invention provides a prepreg which is composed of a mixture of a polycarbodiimide resin and an epoxy resin and which has a film shape; a prepreg composed of (1) a mixture of a polycarbodiimide resin and an epoxy resin and (2) a base material; a multilayer printed wiring board obtained by alternately laminating an internal substrate and an insulating adhesive layer and adhering them to each other, wherein the above prepreg is used as the insulating adhesive; and a process for producing a multilayer printed wiring board, which comprises alternately laminating an internal substrate and the above prepreg, adhering them to each other, and allowing all the internal substrates to communicate with each other at the required portions. The above prepreg has high flexibility at room temperature, causes neither chipping nor peeling of resin, and is superior in heat resistance and electrical insulation after press molding.

A resin-coated metal foil comprising: a metal foil, and a resin layer formed on the metal foil by coating and semi-curing, on the metal foil, a composition containing a polycarbodiimide resin having a number-average molecular weight of 3,000 to 50,000, an epoxy resin, the proportions of the polycarbodiimide resin and the epoxy resin being 100 parts by weight and 20 to 2000 parts by weight, respectively. In the resin-coated metal foil, the resin is superior in handleability and storage stability in a semi-cured state and, after complete cure, high in heat resistance and superior in dielectric properties.
