Abstract:
A control device for a compression self-ignition combustion engine is provided, which includes a variable valve operating system configured to introduce internal exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) gas into a combustion chamber, a boosting system configured to boost intake air, a controller configured to control the valve operating system, and a sensor connected to the controller and configured to detect a parameter related to an operating state of the engine. An operation mode of the valve operating system is switchable between first and second modes. The boosting system boosts the intake air when an engine load is higher than a given load, and does not boost when lower than the given load. When the engine load is high, the controller controls the valve operating system to operate in the first mode, and when the load is low, the controller controls the valve operating system to operate in the second mode.

A combustion chamber is delimited axially by a face surface of the striker that lies in the interior of the cylinder and by a face surface of the piston. Using at least one fuel feed device a predetermined amount of fuel can be introduced into the combustion chamber during each working cycle. A primary fuel feed device is provided, which includes a primary fuel nozzle connected with a primary fuel tank having a fuel with great anti-knock properties. The primary fuel nozzle is structured as a high-pressure injection nozzle. An ignition oil feed device is also provided, which includes an ignition oil nozzle connected with an ignition oil tank having an ignition oil. The ignition oil nozzle is structured as a low-pressure injection nozzle. A method operates such a pile hammer.
Abstract:
A controller injects fuel into a cylinder at a high fuel pressure of 30 MPa or higher, at least in a period between a terminal stage of a compression stroke and an initial stage of an expansion stroke when an operating mode of an engine body is at least in a first specified sub-range of a low load range, and at least in a second specified sub-range of a high load range. The controller sets an EGR ratio in the first specified sub-range to be higher than an EGR ratio in the second specified sub-range, and advances start of fuel injection in the first specified sub-range to start of fuel injection in the second specified sub-range.
Abstract:
Disclosed is an engine control system which is designed to allow homogeneous-charge compression ignition combustion to be performed in an HCCI region (R) defined as an engine operating region including at least a partial-load range of an engine. In a low load zone (R1) of the HCCI region (R), a lift amount of an intake valve (11) is set to a first predetermined value, and an exhaust valve (12) is allowed to start being opened during an intake stroke at a given timing later than an opening timing of the intake valve (11). Further, in the medium load zone of the HCCI region, the lift amount of the intake valve (11) is gradually increased up to a second predetermined value greater than the first predetermined value, along with an increase in an engine load. The engine control system is capable of adequately controlling an amount of burned gas to be introduced into a cylinder, depending on the engine load to allow the HCCI combustion to be adequately performed in a wider engine load range.
Abstract:
In an internal combustion engine, wherein a combustible fuel mix is formed in a combustion chamber of the engine by fuel and by fresh gas supplied through intake ports and combustion gases discharged through exhaust ports including intake and exhaust valves, respectively, which valves are actuated by a valve operating mechanism and a spark ignition operating mode is provided in part of the load range and an operating mode with compression ignition is provided in another part of the load range and, in the event of a change in the operating mode, the opening duration of the gas exchange valves is altered while the opening times of the exhaust valves are maintained.
Abstract:
In a method for operating an internal combustion engine in which the fuel is injected into a combustion chamber of a pre-injection and a main injection quantity, the quantity of fuel for the pre-injection, which is selected depending on the combustion location, is injected before the top dead center of the gas exchange, and the fuel for the main injection is injected synchronously with the induction of the air. The method is used in connection with internal combustion engines, in particular for passenger and commercial motor vehicles.
Abstract:
A gasoline engine has an actuating system including an in-cylinder fuel injection system and an ignition system, capable of changing over combustion between spark ignition combustion and compression autoignition combustion, and a controlling system for controlling the combustion changeover. In a transition from one combustion to the other, the actuating system is controlled to perform transient combustion such as stratified charge combustion with fuel injection on the compression stroke, or combustion with fuel injection during a valve shutoff period during which intake and exhaust valves are both closed.
Abstract:

The engine is a hybrid having transitional combustion modes from spark-ignited stratified charge mode at low power, to a spark-assisted compression ignition at higher power loads, and a strictly compression ignition mode at maximum power loads.
