Abstract:
A method of constructing an inflatable fluidic actuator that includes generating a tube configuration with one or more shapes of fluid-impermeable membrane material, the tube configuration having a first tube end and a second tube end and an internal tube face and an external tube face. The method also includes coupling a first and second interface to the tube configuration at the first and second tube ends by respectively coupling each interface to the tube configuration at a respective tube end by generating at least one of: a first circumferential bond between the fluid-impermeable membrane material and one or more sidewalls of the interface; and an external face bond between fluid-impermeable membrane material at the tube end onto an external face of the interface.
Abstract:
Textured hardcoat films are disclosed for preferable use in film insert moulding. Texture in the hardcoat film is created through the use of a textured protective overlayer, which can impart texture to the curable coating of the hardcoat film. This process preferably avoids the need to alter the composition of the curable coating to allow for texture and preferably produces a hardcoat film with a matte and reduced-glare finish. An apparatus and a method embodying the invention are disclosed.
Abstract:
Methods are disclosed for forming polarized films and glasses having polarization efficiency that is varied in a predetermined design. In particular, such designs include monochrome and color polarization density gradients, where the non-polarized areas of films and glasses allow viewing of polarized displays without distortion. The methods include forming films and glasses that have visually uniform density while still incorporating polarization gradients. The disclosed methods also enable creation of polarization filters and glasses with increased optical density and reduced glare from multiple angles.
Abstract:
A method of making an iridescent, vehicular trim assembly is provided that includes: molding a polymeric base comprising an exterior surface; and over-molding an element over at least a portion of the exterior surface. The element comprises a polymeric, translucent material and an exterior surface with an integral diffraction grating having a thickness from 250 to 1000 nm and a period from 50 nanometers to 5 microns. Further, the molding can be conducted such that the polymeric base is molded with a tint. The method can also include forming a plated region over the exterior surface of the base. In addition, the method can also include cleaning the plated region with a plasma-etching process before the over-molding.
Abstract:
A plastic panel suitable for use in an automotive vehicle or other structure is provided wherein the plastic panel includes a polycarbonate substrate, a PMMA layer and a scratch resistant coating. The polycarbonate substrate may have a thickness approximately between 2.0 mm and approximately 6.0 mm. The PMMA layer may be disposed onto the polycarbonate substrate and the PMMA layer may have a thickness approximately between 0.25 mm and approximately 3.0 mm. The scratch resistant coating is applied to both the PMMA layer and the PC substrate.
Abstract:
A functional sheet with protective films obtained by laminating protective sheets includes aromatic polycarbonate onto a functional layer that is a polyvinyl alcohol polarizing layer or a photocromic layer or any combination thereof and having the protective films adhere to the protective sheets. The protective films have at least two or three layers i.e., a base layer composed of a polypropylene that has a melting point higher than the glass transition temperature of an aromatic polycarbonate; an adhesive layer composed of a heat plastic polyolefin elastomer composed of a polyolefin that has a melting point from a temperature that is 15° C. lower than the glass transition temperature of the aromatic polycarbonate to a temperature that is lower than the glass transition temperature and a styrene-olefin-styrene co-poly-elastomer; and a middle layer composed of a polyolefin resin between the base layer and the adhesive layer.
Abstract:
Provided is a method of manufacturing a housing of an electronic device. The method includes manufacturing a housing body by successively stacking a composite material sheet with a plastic sheet applied to at least one surface of a top and a bottom surfaces of the composite material sheet and molding a plastic injection-molded product on the plastic sheet of the housing body through insert molding to connectively affix the composite material sheet with the housing body and the plastic sheet.
Abstract:
An inflatable membrane apparatus (10) comprising (a) a fluid accumulator (11) having an upper and a lower face and a fluid entrance (12), said lower face being partly formed by an inflatable membrane (14), and (b) a trunconical part (15) projecting outwardly from the lower face of the accumulator whose greater base is closed by at least part of the inflatable membrane (14) and smaller base forms a circular opening, whereby, when pressurized fluid is introduced into the accumulator (11), deformation of the inflatable membrane (14) is guided by the trunconical part.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a polarizing lens molded by inserting a polarizing sheet bent into a sphere or an asphere after having an aromatic polycarbonate sheet bonded via an adhesive layer to both surfaces of a film with polarized nature into a mold, and injecting aromatic polycarbonate, wherein heat treatment at a temperature not less than a temperature of 50° C. lower than the glass transition point and less than the glass transition point for an appropriate time has been performed after injecting aromatic polycarbonate to approximate a designed value of the lens curvature.
