The multi-layer substrate may be void of chemical adhesives, where adhesion between the top surface layer and the thermoplastic layer, and between the bottom surface layer and the thermoplastic layer is instead provided by the thermoplastic material itself, which bonds to groups of fibers in the top and bottom surface layers that are in contact with the thermoplastic material as it melts.

Adhesion between the surface layers and the thermoplastic layer is provided by the thermoplastic material itself, which bonds to groups of fibers in the surface layers. A high pressure laminate is made of several layers of paper, including from bottom to top core sheets, a decor sheet and an overlay sheet. The core sheets are either composed of cellulose fibers or composed of 30 to 90 weight percent cellulose acetate fibers and 70 to 10 weight percent cellulose fibers. The core sheets are respectively coated with either a lamination polymer or a plasticizer. The decor sheet is composed of a mixture and a conventional amount of paper making dye. The mixture comprises 30 to about 90 weight percent cellulose acetate fibers, 10 to 70 weight percent cellulose fibers and 0 to 20 weight percent fillers. The decor sheet is coated with a plasticizer. The overlay sheet is composed of cellulose fibers and is coated with a lamination polymer. Upon application of heat and pressure to the several layers a laminate is formed having thermoplastic properties, improved postformability and a significant reduction in the release of volatile organics during formation.

A heat-adhesive paper sheet suitable for use as fusuma paper and shoji paper in a Japanese style house, wallpaper, ceiling paper, liner for paintings and calligraphic works, and liner for plywood, and which is adhered to the object with heat by ironing. The heat-adhesive paper sheet is composed of a paper sheet material having a projection-depression pattern formed on the surface thereof by creping or embossing or the like and a layer of a thermoplastic thermal shrinking pressure-sensitive adhesive provided on one surface of the paper sheet material. Even though the surface of the object to which the paper sheet is stuck is somewhat rough and uneven, the heat-sensitive adhesive layer may easily be fused so that the paper sheet may be well applied to the object under light pressure without forming wrinkles on the applied sheet. Steam ironing, which has heretofore been unacceptable, is applicable to this paper sheet for sticking it to an object.

An insulating polyolefin laminate paper and a method for producing such a paper in which first and second fiber paper layers are laminated to a polyolefin film layer. The fiber paper layers have an impermeability of 20 to 4000 Gurley-seconds. At least one of the fiber paper layers is mechanically deformed in such a manner that irregularities are produced having a depth of 2 to 50% of the thickness of the fiber paper layer. The mechanical deformation is accomplished prior to lamination. Before lamination, the water content of the fiber paper layers is controlled to be no more than 4%. Preferably, the thickness of the fiber paper layers is at least 30 microns. Furthermore, an electric power supply cable includes an insulating polyolefin laminate paper as an insulating layer.
