摘要: An assembly toy is provided for constructing a three-dimensional composite object as defined by the successive edges of a plurality planar members stacked upon one another in a particular order. An axial structure such as a pair of rods is mounted to a base structure and passes through holes of each of the stacked members to align the holes of each such member and thereby fix its position and orientation. The toy may be provided as a puzzle with the user left to discover the particular order of stacking which results in the predetermined composite object, or each member may be labeled to indicate its stacking order.

摘要: A method for forming synthetic diamond coatings on surfaces, such as select surfaces of boat hulls, motor vehicle underbodies, chemical storage tanks and the like, which are subject to corrosion and/or erosion. In a preferred form, the apparatus is portable and is either hand-holdable or is carried by a self propelled vehicle or computer controlled automatic manipulator. In a particular form, the apparatus includes a chamber having an opening therein with a circumscribing rim adapted to be forced against a portion of the surface to be coated while one or more carbon atom, containing materials in gaseous and/or solid particle form are fed to the surface interior of such rin and form a synthetic diamond coating or the like thereagainst. Radiation directed through such chamber from a microwave generator and/or a plasma generator, is directed against such surface portion and the carbon containing material and operates to form same into synthetic diamond or diamond-like coating which becomes bonded to the surface while the housing defining the chamber is held stationery or is controllably moved across the surface by hand or by a manipulator holding such housing.

摘要: A portable camera and recording device capable of recording motion picture and still image signals on an erasable magnetic tape and, in an embodiment thereof, still images on hard copy as photographic images. A single assembly supports a television camera at one end, a videocassette recorder behind the television camera and an instant photographic camera below or to the side of the television camera. Still and motion picture images of image phenomena recorded as full-frame video picture signals on the magnetic tape and are displayable on a miniature electronic display screen within the housing. Controls on the housing permit select still images of frames of recorded picture information to be selectively displayed on the screen, viewed though an eyepiece and passed through an aperture of an instant photographic camera for photographic reproduction. Methods for effectively operating the camera and producing magnetic recordings and hard copy recordings are also provided.

摘要: An automatic scanning apparatus and method for detecting the presence of one or more objects in an image field under investigation or inspection. Electro-optical scanning means, such as a television camera, is employed to scan an image field and generate output electrical signals which vary in accordance with variations in the optical characteristics of the matter and objects in the image field scanned. Such signals are computer processed and analyzed to generate coded electrical signals which define optical characteristics of portion of the image field scanned, such as objects or the images of objects scanned, their shape, color of a combination of color and shape. Electronic means is provided to generate further coded electrical signals which indicate the presence of one or more objects in the image field scanned and may be used to effect intelligent indications thereof, to control one or more devices such as a motor or motors, and/or to provide information for computational purposes to be processed and utilized by a computer. In one form, that shape of an object or objects is detected and coded signals generated are employed to effect a comparison of such shape with information relating to the shapes of known objects to identify the object or objects scanned. In another form, the color or surface characteristics of an object is detected and resulting signals indicative thereof are compared with information derived from a memory to identify either the object or its color or surface characteristics. In a third form both shape and color are detected and compared with recorded information for identification purposes.

摘要: High density recording systems and methods are disclosed which employ a radiation beam to form spot-like recordings in record members such as discs, tapes and cards. The angle, offset or cross-sectional shape of the recording beam can be varied so as to vary the angle, offset or shape of the corresponding recordings in the record member. The recorded information can be electro-optically or magnetically detected and discriminated from each other to provide high density recordings of alpha-numeric characters or digital data. Enhanced detection scanning is effected by ultrasonically vibrating the laser or an optical element, such as a prism or mirror receiving the reading light beam, in a manner to cause it to scan back and forth laterally to the record track as a longitudinal scanning movement is effected parallel to the longitudinal axis or centerline of the track. The reflected light is detected, computer processed and analyzed to effect proper detection of the recordings to generate correct data therefrom.

摘要: An automatic scanning and control apparatus determines the location of a predetermined segment of an image field being scanned. The predetermined segment presents an image which is optically differentiatable from the surrounding area of the image field. The apparatus includes a beam device for selectively scanning the image field and producing an output signal thereof. The beam device includes means for modulating the output signal in accordance with variations in the image field. The predetermined segment of the image field causes modulation of the output signal of the beam device by providing an inflection therein when the beam scans across the segment. An analyzing circuit is adapted to accept the output signal from the beam device. Means generate a locating signal in predetermined time relation to the scanning. Comparator means compare the inflection in the output signal with the locating signal so that the location of the predetermined segment of the image field can be determined. A method compares an image field to be inspected with a standard image field. A standard image field is scanned with a beam and a video signal is modulated in accordance with intensity variations in the standard field. The video signal is recorded on a recording member. The field to be inspected is then scanned by the beam and a second video signal is generated. Both the video signals are reproduced and passed to a comparator means. A point to point comparison is made between the inflections and variations in each signal resulting from the scanning image areas of contrasting intensity by generating pulse signals during the intervals that the areas do not coincide. The pulse signals are then automatically analyzed.
