Abstract:
A novel bio-based superabsorbent polymer material based on a proteinaceous natural polymer is introduced herein. There is further disclosed a method for the manufacture of such a bio-based crosslinked superabsorbent polymer material. The method includes, but not limited to, introducing polymerizable unsaturated groups onto the natural polymer or its derivative so as to yield a macromonomer. The macromonomer can be formed by covalently binding unsaturated carbon-carbon double bonds to a proteinaceous substrate through a reaction of a selected chemical compound and the amino group on the proteinaceous substrate. The macromonomer is then copolymerized with unsaturated co-monomer(s) to form a crosslinked superabsorbent material.

An extruded water-soluble article includes a water-soluble polymer having an extrusion temperature of 90 to 150 C., a plasticizer, and one or more active agents in a total amount of 0.1% to 50% by weight of the article. Combining the active agent(s) with a plasticizer prior to melt-blending with the water-soluble polymer prevents phase separation of the active agent and the polymer. Articles include films, fibers, rods, bars and the like. Such articles may be placed in an absorbent article such as a bandage, a medical drape, a wipe, a sheet, a diaper, a pant, or a pad.

Adhesive articles containing microtopography, such as microprotrusions, and a coating of adhesive glue, such an adhesive having known toxicity and/or tissue reactive functional groups are described herein. The articles described herein contain a substrate, a plurality of microfeatures, and an adhesive, such as an adhesive glue. The articles described herein exhibit a 90° pull off adhesion of at least about 1.5 N/cm2. The articles described herein can contain less adhesive than when the adhesive is used alone without microtopography and yet exhibit equivalent adhesive strength with little or no toxicity or other adverse side effects (e.g., exothermic reaction).

Disclosed is a color filter ink composition that includes an acrylic-based copolymer resin including repeating units represented by a particular chemical formula, a polymerizable monomer, a pigment, and a solvent. According to the present invention, the color filter ink composition can have excellent ejection properties and ejection stability by using a new acrylic-based copolymer resin as a binder resin, and also can have excellent storage stability, so that it can be used for a long period. In addition, a pattern formed using the color filter ink composition can have improved heat resistance, chemical resistance, and film strength.

Waxes prepared from hydrogenated plant oils, such as castor and soybean, are formulated into aqueous ink and paper coating compositions. Ink compositions comprising these waxes and evaluated for their resistance to mar and abrasion achieved rub resistance and slip performance comparable to compositions utilizing conventional wax additives, which are generally derived from petroleum. The waxes in the inventive compositions have a low iodine value (ranging from approximately 2 to approximately 5), and a melting point between approximately 120 degrees to approximately 190 degrees F. (Mettler Drop Point). These naturally derived waxes are used as an alternative to petroleum and synthetically derived waxes in the manufacture of inks and coatings for paper and cellulosic products.
