The results of assigning the consecutive sector numbers are held in an address conversion table as address conversion information. Thus, the flash EEPROM chips are simultaneously accessed when a host CPU designates the consecutive sector numbers for the same track. The access speed of the semiconductor memory system can therefore be increased when the system is controlled by the existing disk access method in which the sectors to be accessed sequentially are assigned to the same track. The semiconductor memory system can thereby be used efficiently in place of a data storage disk.
