Abstract:
The insulation barrier is formed of a body of expanded polystyrene which is impregnated with sodium silicate. In addition, a coating formed of a metallic-based inorganic material is applied over at least one surface of the body. The sodium silicate is applied in solution form and maintained within the body by a wetting agent in the solution. The coating is be applied by a coating roller either before or after drying of the impregnated polystyrene body.
Abstract:
The invention relates to solutions of silanols prepared by hydrolysis of alkyltrialkoxysilanes whose alkoxy groups are partially or completely hydrolyzed.Preferred hydrolyzed alkyltrialkoxysilanes are of the formula CH.sub.3 --CH.sub.2 .dbd.CH.sub.2 --Si(OH).sub.n (OH').sub.3-n.
Abstract:
A polyurethane foam of the present disclosure is obtained from a polyurethane raw material containing a polyol component and a polyisocyanate component, and a gas for foaming. The polyurethane raw material contains a hydrophobic silica as a foam retention agent for retaining a foam and a light calcium carbonate, and a blending amount of the light calcium carbonate is 10 parts by weight or more based on 100 parts by weight of the polyol component.
Abstract:
A method of manufacturing a flexible intrinsically antimicrobial absorbent porosic composite controlling for an effective pore size using removable pore-forming substances and physically incorporated, non-leaching antimicrobials. A flexible intrinsically antimicrobial absorbent porosic composite controlled for an effective pore size composited physically incorporated, high-surface area, non-leaching antimicrobials, optionally in which the physically incorporated non-leaching antimicrobial exposes nanopillars on its surface to enhance antimicrobial activity. A kit that enhances the effectiveness of the intrinsically antimicrobial absorbent porosic composite by storing the composite within an antimicrobial container.

Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method for preparing a metallized open-cell foam or fibrous substrate, wherein the method comprises: (A) providing an open-cell foam or fibrous substrate, wherein the open-cell foam or fibrous substrate contains a polymer comprising heteroatom-containing moieties within the bulk of the open-cell foam or fibrous substrate or as a coating on the open-cell foam or fibrous substrate, wherein the polymer comprising heteroatom-containing moieties is selected from polyvinylpyridine, polyvinylpyrrolidone, polyvinyl alcohol, polyallylamine, polyethylene oxide, polyethylene imine, polyethylene sulfide and copolymers or blends thereof; (B) contacting the open-cell foam or fibrous substrate with nanoparticles of a first metal to provide a nanoparticle coated open-cell foam or fibrous substrate; and (C) contacting the nanoparticle coated open-cell foam or fibrous substrate with a solution comprising a salt of a second metal and a reducing agent to provide the metallized open-cell foam or fibrous substrate having a layer of the second metal on the nanoparticle coated open-cell foam or fibrous substrate.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein are surface-modified membranes and other surface-modified substrates exhibiting switchable oleophobicity and oleophilicity in aqueous media. These membranes and substrates may be used for variety of applications, including controllable oil/water separation processes, oil spill cleanup, and oil/water purification. Also provided are the making and processing of such surface-modified membranes and other surface-modified substrates.
Abstract:
The present document provides details of a nanostructured material defined by an anodized alumina having a nanostructure with transverse pores that pass through and connect longitudinal pores grown on an aluminum substrate. This document also describes the process for producing said nanostructured material and the possible use thereof as a template or mould for obtaining nanostructures formed by nanowires, which are generated in the cavities or pores of the aforementioned nanostructure of the nanomaterial of the invention. Likewise, this document details the use of the nanostructured anodized alumina material as a mould for producing nanostructures.
