Abstract: A process can be used for producing methacrylic acid or a methacrylic acid ester. The process involves producing acrolein, reacting the produced acrolein with hydrogen to produce propanal, reacting the propanal with formaldehyde to produce methacrolein, and oxidizing the methacrolein in the presence of an oxygen containing gas and optionally an alcohol, to obtain methacrylic acid or methacrylic acid ester.

Abstract: In one embodiment, an antibacterial material includes at least one microparticles selected from tungsten oxide microparticles and tungsten oxide complex microparticles. The microparticles, which have undergone a test to evaluate viable cell count by inoculating in a test piece, to which the microparticles are adhered in a range of 0.02 mg/cm2 or more and 40 mg/cm2 or less, at least one bacterium selected from among Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, and enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli, and storing for 24 hours, have an antibacterial activity value R of 0.1 or more expressed by the following: R=log(B1/C1) where, B1 denotes an average value (number) of viable cell count after storing an untreated test piece for 24 hours, and C1 denotes an average value (number) of viable cell count after storing the test piece on which the microparticles are coated for 24 hours.

Abstract: A catalyst composition for manufacturing a catalyst for hydrogen production based on thermochemical reaction of methanol is disclosed. The catalyst composition includes a support component and an active component. The support component includes cement and clay, wherein a weight ratio of the cement to the clay is 3/7 to 9/1. The active component includes copper oxide or a precursor of copper oxide. Based on 100 parts by weight of the support component, a content of the active component is 5 to 10 parts by weight.

Abstract: Claimed herein is a method of applying amorphous Co—SiOx to activate PMS and produce SO4·− due to the formation of Co(II)-Ov, pairs via the substitution of Si by Co. The inherent Co significantly change the electronic structure of O and Si atoms in the Co—SiOx via final state effects and increase the conductivity in terms of more effective electron transfers. The claimed method using Co—SiOx functions as a more effective oxidative catalyst for the faster degradation of pollutants. The simplicity of the synthetic procedures indicates that the conductive Co—SiOx could be used for the activation of PMS and other electrochemical applications on a wider scale.

Abstract: A field of environmental protection and discloses a method for preparing an amorphous silica-alumina encapsulated metal oxide catalyst and application thereof. The catalyst is prepared by filling silica-alumina precursors in tunnels of a monometallic or bimetallic complex and then performing heat treatment. The catalyst has the advantages that acidic sites and oxygen vacancies are highly dispersed, the pore size range is large and the mass transfer efficiency is high, improves the efficiency of a cracking-oxidation tandem reaction, and achieves full purification of carbon/nitrogen pollutants in landfill leachate. The COD removal rate of the landfill leachate reaches 98.3% or above, and the ammonia nitrogen removal rate thereof reaches 98.0% or above. The COD concentration of oxypyrolysis purified effluent is less than 98.7 mg/L and the ammonia nitrogen concentration thereof is less than 24.9 mg/L.

Abstract: This invention relates to development of novel Cu-based nanocatalysts synthesized via one-pot solution combustion synthesis for CO2 hydrogenation to methanol. The novel Cu-based catalyst has exceptional activity for CO2 hydrogenation with high methanol selectivity in the reaction temperature range between 250° C.-350° C. The novel catalyst also exhibits excellent resilience to deactivation due to sintering.

Abstract: Methods for synthesizing a water-soluble titanium-silicon complex are disclosed herein. The titanium-silicon complex can be utilized to produce titanated solid oxide supports and titanated chromium supported catalysts. The titanated chromium supported catalysts subsequently can be used to polymerize olefins to produce, for example, ethylene based homopolymer and copolymers.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a catalyst which comprises a silica core having an outer surface and a mesoporous silica shell having an outer surface and an inner surface with the inner surface being inside the outer surface of said mesoporous silica shell proximate to and surrounding the outer surface of said silica core. Wherein the outer surface of the mesoporous silica shell has openings leading to pores within the mesoporous silica shell which extend toward the outer surface of said silica core. The catalyst also includes catalytically active metal nanoparticles positioned within the pores proximate to said core, wherein the catalytic metal nanoparticles comprise about 0.0001 wt % to about 1.0 wt % of the catalyst. Also disclosed are methods of making the catalyst and using it to carry out a process for catalytically hydrogenolysizing a polyolefinic polymer.
