An optical characteristic adjusting apparatus for a laser beam radiation system comprises a transparent substrate which generates visible radiation in response to non-visible radiation, and a stand for positioning the substrate perpendicular to an optical axis of laser beam emitted from a laser beam radiation system. When the non-visible radiation irradiates the surface of the substrate, a bright spot is formed since the visible radiation is generated from the irradiated portion of the substrate. Therefore, an operator can appropriately adjust the optical characteristics of the non-visible radiation at both sides of the transparent substrate since the bright spot can be observed at both sides of the transparent substrate.

A luminescent screen includes a plurality of columnar luminescent elements made of a transparent material which contains a substance capable of emitting luminescent light in response to stimulating light applied thereto, the columnar luminescent elements having central axes parallel to each other and having adjacent sides held against each other. Emitted luminescent light is prevented from leaking in a direction normal to the longitudinal direction of the columnar luminescent elements, thereby increasing the brightness of the entire luminescent screen. Since the columnar luminescent elements of the luminescent screen are not integrally joined as a continuous unitary structure, any leaking luminescent light from the adjacent luminescent elements or regions is reduced.

As a result, the overall length of the casing 1 can be reduced and the shape of the casing 1 can be simplified. Furthermore, the power of the electric motor 6 can be effectively transmitted to the output rotational shaft 9 by the planetary gear decelerating device so that the driving device can output large torque.

For this purpose, a control device of an engine equipped with a supercharger according to the present invention calculates an estimated value of an intake valve passing air amount from a measured value of an intake air amount, and calculates an estimated value of an in-cylinder air amount from a measured value or an estimated value of intake pipe pressure. From a difference between the estimated value of the intake valve passing air amount and the estimated value of the in-cylinder air amount, the estimated value of the scavenging amount is calculated.

An object of the present invention is to improve controllability over a supercharging pressure in a transient state, in a control device of an internal combustion engine equipped with a turbo supercharger that determines a manipulated variable of an actuator which acts on a rotational speed of a turbine by feedback control based on a deviation between a target state quantity and an actual state quantity. To this end, a control device according to the present invention determines an opening degree of a throttle by feedforward control based on a target intake air amount, and determines a manipulated variable of the actuator by feedback control based on a deviation between a target intake pressure determined from the target intake air amount and an actual intake pressure.
