Abstract:
This invention relates to a lubricating composition comprising a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity and at least one metal-free thiophosphorus acid ester, at least one amine salt of the thiophosphorus acid ester, or a mixture thereof, wherein the thiophosphorus acid ester contains at least one hydrocarbyl terminated oxyalkylene group, at least one hydrocarbyl terminated polyoxyalkylene group, or a mixture thereof. In one embodiment, the thiophosphorus acid ester is a thiophosphorus acid ester represented by the following formula ##STR1## wherein X.sub.1, X.sub.2, and X.sub.3 are oxygen or sulfur, provided that at least one of X.sub.1, X.sub.2, and X.sub.3 is sulfur; R.sub.1 is a hydrocarbyl group; R.sub.2 is an alkylene group; R.sub.3 is hydrogen or a hydrocarbyl group; x is a number from 1 to about 40; and a is 0, 1, or 2, or at least one salt of the thiophosphorus acid ester. The lubricating compositions, functional fluids and greases have improved antiwear/extreme pressure properties and improved antioxidation properties. In functional fluids, the thiophosphorus acid esters and their salts act as antiwear agents and rust inhibitors.
Abstract:
The present invention includes an aerosol grease precursor composition adapted to be sprayed and a pressurized aerosol grease precursor composition in a dispensing container. The present invention also includes a method of dispensing an aerosol grease composition.
Abstract:

A tire gel balancing composition having a Storage modulus of between 3000 and 15000 Pa and the Specific Gravity less than 1000 kg/m.sup.3 in the temperature range between -20.degree. and +90.degree. C., preferably its Storage modulus is about 9000 Pa, is capable of balancing tires by being able to flow under the vibrations caused by imbalance in a wheel assembly. The composition preferably comprises a mixture of: 1) paraffinic oils, polybutene oils, polyol esters, including castor oil, or polyol ethers; 2) hydrophobic or hydrophilic fumed silica; 3) polyalkyl-methacrylates, styrene-ethylene-propylene block copolymers or polyhydroxycarboxylic acid derivatives; and optionally corrosion inhibitors and antioxidants.
Abstract:
The invention generally relates to gelled oil compositions which employ aluminum complex soaps as gelling agents. The gelled oils comprise an oil component, a bleed inhibitor of polybutene, and optional amounts of antioxidant and pour point depressant. The gelled oils are particularly suited for use as buffer tube gels and as filling compounds for waveguides.
Abstract:
Silicone grease comprising (A) an amino-modified silicone fluid having an amine equivalent of 10,000 to 200,000 g/mol and a viscosity of 10 to 100,000 cs at 25.degree. C., and (B) a thickener exhibits improved heat resistance and low-temperature resistance.
Abstract:
A dry film, low coefficient of friction lubricant for titanium pieces is prepared by mixing together solid lubricant particles, poly(tetrafluoroethylene), a suspending agent, and a curable resin in an evaporable carrier. The mixture is applied to titanium or titanium alloy surfaces that contact each other in service. The carrier is evaporated during a subsequent thermal cure, leaving a lubricating film on the surfaces.
Abstract:
Novel compositions useful as fluid gelling agents, especially for use in subterranean applications such as drilling fluids, are prepared by reacting an aqueous dispersion of a clay, such as bentonite, with an aqueous gel of a monodispersed mixed metal layered hydroxide of the formula Li.sub.m D.sub.d T(OH).sub.(m+2d+3+na) A.sub.a.sup.n, where D is a divalent metal, such as Mg, T is a trivalent metal, such as Al, and A represents other monovalent or polyvalent anions, the formula being described in detail in the disclosure.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a grease for a slide contact which comprises (i) a synthetic hydrocarbon oil, (ii) 0.2-3.0 parts by weight of at least one inorganic substance whose mean particle size is 0.36 .mu. or less, selected from the group consisting of zinc oxide, ferric oxide, and clay minerals which produce magnesium oxide through thermal decomposition thereof at high temperature, (iii) 3-20 parts by weight of 12-hydroxy lithium stearate, and (iv) 0.1-5.0 parts by weight of phenolic and/or amine primary antioxidants, said blending amounts of the ingredients being based on 100 parts by weight of the grease.
