Abstract:
Monitoring apparatus and methods are provided for assessing a physiological condition of a subject. At least two types of physiological information are detected from a subject via a portable monitoring device associated with the subject, and an assessment of a physiological condition of the subject is made using the at least two types of physiological information, wherein each type of physiological information is individually insufficient to make the physiological condition assessment. Environmental information from a vicinity of a subject also may be detected, and an assessment of a physiological condition of the subject may be made using the environmental information in combination with the physiological information. Exemplary physiological information may include subject heart rate, subject activity level, subject tympanic membrane temperature, and subject breathing rate. Exemplary environmental information may include humidity level information in the vicinity of the subject. An exemplary physiological condition assessment may be subject hydration level.
Abstract:
The present invention identifies genes whose gene products are differentially expressed in lymphedema tissues, particularly cutaneous tissue involved in whole organ response to lymphedema. The invention provides methods for diagnosing or assessing an individual's susceptibility to lymphedema. Also provided are therapeutic methods for treating a patient or methods for prophylactically treating an individual susceptible to lymphedema. Additionally, the invention describes screening methods for identifying agents that can be administered to treat individuals that have or at risk of developing lymphedema.
Abstract:
An interventional catheter assembly has an operating head and catheter system that are inserted and navigated within a patient's body while an operator controls the system externally of the operating head. An operating head is positioned at or near a distal end of the catheter system and coupled to a drive shaft and drive system for rotation. A guidewire brake control system interrupt prevents the drive system from being actuated when the guidewire brake is in a released position, and a selectable guidewire brake interrupt override control permits an operator to translate and/or rotate the drive shaft and operating head while the guidewire is simultaneously moved. This allows withdrawal of the guide wire and the operating head from the target site while rotating the operating head.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein are an a medical imaging apparatus capable of easily detecting the location of specific tissue, for example, a lymph node, and a method of providing medical images. The medical image providing method includes: arranging and displaying n thumbnail images for n first photoacoustic images acquired by initially scanning an object, wherein n is a natural number; and enhancing a thumbnail image that is identical to a second photoacoustic image acquired by secondarily scanning the object, among the n thumbnail images.
Abstract:
A method of monitoring a subject includes positioning an earbud within an ear of the subject, wherein the earbud housing encloses at least one optical emitter and at least one optical detector, and wherein light transmissive material is external to the housing and in optical communication with the at least one optical emitter and detector via at least one window in the housing. Light is delivered from the at least one optical emitter through the at least one window and into an ear region of the subject via the light transmissive material, and light external to the housing is collected and delivered through the at least one window to the at least one optical detector via the light transmissive material. Motion of the subject is measured via a motion sensor, and signals produced by the at least one optical detector are processed to selectively remove effects from subject motion.
Abstract:
An imaging method includes providing a handpiece having a probe tip insertable into human or animal tissue disposed at an end thereof, and, an optical coherence tomography (OCT) probe connected to the handpiece such that a functionality of the OCT probe is provided at the probe tip. The probe tip is disposed adjacent to or into human or animal tissue. Imaging of the tissue, measuring at least one of a feature size or a quantifiable characteristic of a structure in the tissue for biometry analysis, and/or performing a diagnostic procedure on the tissue or a device implanted in the tissue is performed with the OCT probe.
Abstract:
Systems and methods are described for obtaining and acting upon information indicative of circulatory health and related phenomena in human beings or other subjects. Some involve implementing or deploying therapeutic administration systems, for example, for obtaining a priori implant information and signaling a decision whether to initiate implant-site-targeting treatment; or obtaining a flow-change-indicative measurement and signaling a decision whether to administer a clot-reducing agent; or obtaining an indication of a lytic material in a vicinity of a body lumen and accelerating a decrease in a local concentration of the lytic material to extract at least a portion of the lytic material in response to the indication; or a capture component configured to accelerate a decrease in a local concentration of a therapeutic structure along a downstream portion of a vasculature and a dispensation component configured to release the therapeutic structure into an upstream portion of the vasculature.
Abstract:
An apparatus for the diagnosis of a biological sample is disclosed. An embodiments of the apparatus includes a probe, a probe head distally connectable to the probe, the probe head further comprising a plurality of electrode elements thereby forming an electrode array where each electrode element is variably actuatable to apply an electrical signal to the biological sample; an RF signal source for applying the electrical signal to the electrode array; an electrode selector adapted and configured to switch the electrical signal from the RF signal source between the plurality of electrode elements; and a detection circuit for analyzing a dielectric property received from the biological sample. Methods and kits for diagnosing a biological sample are also disclosed.
Abstract:
A method of generating a character for use within a game includes collecting physiological information from a subject over a period of time via a monitor worn by the subject, collecting environmental information from a vicinity of the subject over the period of time via the monitor, generating a health assessment of the subject based on the physiological and environmental information, and creating a gaming character for the subject using the physiological information, the environmental information, and the health assessment. The physiological information includes at least one of breathing rate, muscle tension, neurological activity, brain wave intensity and activity, core body temperature, pulse rate, and blood pressure. The environmental information includes at least one of light intensity, light color, external sounds, ambient temperature, and geographical location. The character information is updated in response to changes in subject health and/or in response to environmental changes in the vicinity of the subject.
Abstract:
Systems and methods of providing targeted advertising are provided. Physiological information is collected from a wearable monitoring device attached to a body of a first subject over a period of time, such as multiple days, weeks, or months. Exemplary physiological information includes pulse rate information, body temperature information, breathing rate information, blood pressure information, cardiac output information, and blood gas level information. The collected physiological information is analyzed to generate a profile for the first subject. At least one advertisement is selected in response to the profile, and presented to a second subject not wearing a monitoring device, wherein the first and second subjects have at least one matching demographic.
