    摘要: A semiconductor laser diode having increased efficiency and therefore increased power output. The laser diode includes a body of a semiconductor material having therein a waveguide region which is not intentionally doped so as to have a doping level of no greater than about 5.times.10.sup.16 /cm.sup.3. Within the waveguide region is means, such as at least one quantum well region, for generating an optical mode of photons. Clad regions of opposite conductivity type are on opposite sides of the waveguide region. The thickness of the waveguide region, a thickness of at least 500 nanometers, and the composition of the waveguide and the clad regions are such so as to provide confinement of the optical mode in the waveguide region to the extent that the optical mode generating does not overlap into the clad regions from the waveguide region more than about 5%.

The method measures the rate of transmission of clock reference information by measuring the time of arrival of successive clock references or the difference of the clock reference values. The method applies the measured transmission rate to a plurality of predefined transmission rate ranges to acquire the proper gain factor values. These gain factor values are used to control the responsiveness of the PLL to new clock reference information.

The method generates the instantaneous effect of luminance driving the pupil diameter, the cumulative driving function of the pupil diameter, and the evolving pupil diameter. Using the evolving pupil diameter together with the input luminance, the method computes the retinal illuminance distribution for the given input illuminance. The method is implemented as a software routine executed by a general purpose computer.

    摘要: Apparatus having a substrate having a planar conductive plating located on a first surface of a dielectric layer and having a conductive trace (a collection trace) located on a second surface of the dielectric layer such that the conducting plating and the conductive trace have a parallel, spaced-apart relation. The conductive trace is charged by supplying a voltage to the plating and the trace to establish a voltage differential across the dielectric layer. As such, depending upon the magnitude of the voltage, polarity of the voltage and the duration for which the voltage is applied to the trace, a certain quantity and polarity of charge accumulates on the trace. The material to be deposited is charged to an opposite polarity than that of the trace and then the deposition material is applied to the trace. Consequently, the substrate electrostatically retains the deposition material on the collection trace.

    摘要: A tribo-inhaler having a container portion for electrostatically retaining a predefined dose of medicament powder, where the medicament is tribo-electrically charged; and apparatus, attached to the container portion, for extracting said medicament powder from the container portion. The container portion contains a plurality of polymeric beads that have diameters of approximately 50 to 200 microns. Each of the polymeric beads has a specific quantity of dry powder medicament electrostatically adhered to its surface. To remove the medicament from the cavity, a patient merely inhales air through the container portion. The air flow forcefully moves the beads within the container portion causing the medicament to dislodge from the beads and be carried by the air flow into the lungs of the patient.
