Abstract:
A joint assembly is provided. The joint assembly includes a first component and a second component that includes a first portion and a plurality of flexible members extending therefrom for coupling the second component to the first component. The plurality of flexible members are preloaded in a predetermined direction and are configured to flex in a direction opposite to the predetermined direction when coupling the second component to the first component.
Abstract:
A nonwoven industrial fabric, and a method of constructing the fabric. The fabric comprises at least one layer of a polymeric film having a plurality of apertures extending from an upper surface through to a lower surface. Adjacent pairs of the apertures define land areas therebetween, and selected land areas comprise protrusions extending from at least one of the upper surface and the lower surface of the layer to form a profile to the respective surface. The method comprises optionally pre-embossing the film, cutting the film to provide the plurality of apertures, applying pressure to selected land areas to form the protrusions to create a contoured profile, and treating the film to set the contoured profile. Additional surface treatment can be provided, and two or more layers can be secured over each other for multilayer fabrics. The invention provides a simplified and economical construction, while maintaining stability and strength.
Abstract:
A system is provided for the sealing of a thermoplastic weld, the system comprising: a first and second thermoplastic components; a channel disposed in opposing faces of the first and second thermoplastic components; a sealing member disposed within the channel sealing a joint between the opposing faces; and at least one thermoplastic weld joining the opposing faces proximate to the sealing member.
Abstract:
A laminate web and several uses of the laminate web are disclosed. The laminate web comprises a first web, a second web joined to the first web at a plurality of discrete bond sites; and a third material disposed between at least a portion of the first and second webs. The laminate webs of the present invention are suitable for a variety of uses. Such uses include flexible carrying implement, medical applications, kitchen or bathroom implements, decorative coverings, home accent items, pet industry articles, fabric, fabric backings, edible materials, bedding applications, absorbent food pads, clean room wipes, tack cloths, and many other uses.
Abstract:
An electrical cable of the present invention comprises a plurality of spaced, parallel flat conductors. Each of the plurality of flat conductors was previously integral with each immediately adjacent flat conductor. A dielectric material is holds the conductors in the spaced, parallel relationship. The dielectric material can be a polymer film, a nonwoven, or other polymer materials such as PTFE, or expanded PTFE. The cable of the present invention is made by providing first and second webs of dielectric materials and a third sheet of conductive material. The first and second web materials are bonded to the third sheet of conductive material in a face-to-face layered relationship thereby forming a bonded laminate. The bonded laminate is then incrementally stretched to separate the sheet of conductive material in to spaced, parallel flat conductors.
Abstract:
In order to reduce splitting in a perforated, heat shrinkable, thermoplastic bags made from seamless tubing, rather than employ needle punched perforations, it has been discovered that slits cut by a knife blade will surprisingly reduce the splitting when a product, such as a meat product, is cooked within the bag.
Abstract:
An ultrasonic buttonhole apparatus comprises an ultrasonic generator, a converter with horn, and a stationary anvil. The anvil is provided with a patterned face to cause a frame-like fused portion and with a moveable slitting means which is raised dduring a portion of the sealing (weld) cycle, thereby causing selective fusing of the workpiece interposed.
Abstract:
A filter unit connecting a gate connection part to an outer cylinder includes a plurality of longitudinal ribs formed at regular intervals orthogonally to an X axis and parallel to a Y axis when a virtual plane orthogonal to a central axis of the gate connection part is assumed to be an X-Y plane. A plurality of transverse ribs is formed at regular intervals orthogonally to the longitudinal ribs and parallel to the X axis, and a plurality of rectangular openings is formed between the longitudinal ribs and the transverse ribs. By injecting molten resin into a cavity from a gate opened toward a cavity portion forming the gate connection part, the gate connection part, the outer cylinder, and the filter unit are formed integrally, the rib widths of the longitudinal ribs and the transverse ribs are made constant, and the shapes of the plurality of openings are made identical.

Abstract:
Embodiments of the present invention include photobioreactors with membranes to introduce carbon dioxide into media contained within film photobioreactors. Such membranes can also be used to remove dissolved oxygen from the media. In some embodiments, one or more membrane tubes are welded into a plastic film photobioreactor to make a one-piece reactor. According to some embodiments of the present invention, algae is grown in a photobioreactor using pressure, gas composition, and surface area along with sparging to control the pH in the photobioreactor.
