The present invention provides methods for resisting corrosion of metal elements in concrete, and associated compounds and structures. Acid mine drainage sludge is used as a source of a precursor compound that reacts with a source of anion to form a chloride-sequestering compound. The precursor compound may have the formula 2Me′(II)O·(Y(2−x),Y′x)O3+qMe′(II)O, where at least one of Y and Y′ is present; Y and Y′ are different and are independently selected from the group consisting of Al, Fe, Cr, and not present; Me′ is a cation and is selected from the group consisting of Ca, Ba, Sr, Mn, and Zn; x is a number ranging from 0 to 2; and q is a number ranging from 0 to 2; and combinations thereof. In a preferred embodiment, the precursor compound has the formula 2CaO(Fe(2−x),Alx)O3+CaO.

It includes introducing into concrete containing metal elements, at least one combination compound capable of sequestering chloride ions having the formula 3Me(II)O.(R,R′)2O3.Me(II)(anion)2.nH2O, where R and R′ are different and are independently selected from the group consisting of Al, Fe and Cr; anion is selected from the group consisting of NO2, NO3 and OH, n is 0 to 24, and Me(II) is a cation and is selected from the group consisting of Ca, Ba, Sr, Mn, Zn and combinations thereof. In one embodiment of the invention, concrete structures may be rehabilitated by providing an overlay containing the combination compound, with the overlay being provided in situ or as a preformed member and with possible use of a slurry in combination with an overlay segment.

This mixture causes complex formation of the salt, characterized by raising the pH of the mixture to at least 5. Additives in the mixture promote stability and provide the required viscosity surface tension and conductivity for use in an ink jet printer. When applying a solution of this mixture onto a firable article by ink jet printing, the mixture is such that upon drying, the mixture reacts to form an oxide of the metal to provide a decorative color pigment on the article.

Disclosed is an oxide thin film producing method for producing an oxide thin film having excellent crystallinity and purity with high productivity while correctly controlling the composition of the oxide thin film. After reducing the pressure inside a vacuum chamber to 1.times.10.sup.-9 Torr or less, a metal thin film is formed by evaporating a specified metal element and depositing vapor of the metal element on a substrate in the vacuum chamber. Then a cover member is moved upward to closely abut to a cover receiving member to thereby form an airtight chamber for enclosing the substrate airtightly in the vacuum chamber. With the degree of vacuum around the airtight chamber maintained, O.sub.2 gas is directly introduced into the airtight chamber through a gas piping to oxidize the metal thin film and thereby form an oxide thin film. At the same time, the gas inside the airtight chamber is discharged directly out of the vacuum chamber through a gas piping.

Provided herein include methods and compositions pertaining to coatings, such as paints, for covering a substrate. In some aspects and embodiments the coatings may include a heat reflective metal oxide pigment that, applied to an external surface of a building (or is applied on a substrate used for an external surface of a building such as an architectural metal panel, EIFS, as a stucco top coat or as a top coat for roofing tiles) reduces the energy consumption in the building. In other aspects and embodiments, provided are textured coatings having a texturing material; for example, methods and compositions are provided pertaining to textured coatings that can be applied robotically or in an automated fashion. In various aspects and embodiments, textured coatings are provided that include a texturing material and a heat reflective metal oxide pigment. In some aspects and embodiments heat reflective coatings for concrete or clay tiles and methods of applying such are provided.
