Abstract:
The invention concerns a fuel for diesel engines, with a sulphur content of less than 500 ppm containing in a major proportion at least one average distillate from a straight-run distilling cup of crude oil, with temperature ranges between 150 and 400null C. and in a minor proportion a lubricating additive containing monocarboxylic and polycyclic acids. The said fuel is characterized in that it contains at least 20 ppm of the additive consisting of at least one monocarboxylic aliphatic hydrocarbon, saturated or unsaturate, of linear chain between 12 and 14 carbon atoms, and at least one polcyclic hydrocarbon compound, containing at least two cycles each formed of 5 to 6 atoms one of which at most is optionally a heteroatom such as nitrogen or oxygen and the other atoms are carbon atoms, these two cycles having further two carbon atoms in common, preferably vicinal, these said cycles being saturated or unsaturated, substituted or non-substituted by at least one single grouping selected among the carboxylic, amine carboxyl, ester and nitrile groupings, the fuel containing more than 60 ppm of additive when the said combination is tall oil.
Abstract:
A fuel composition for internal combustion engines, and more particularly, a fuel composition for internal combustion engines containing less than about 0.5 gram of lead per gallon of fuel is described. The fuel provides acceptable valve seat protection in engines designed to operate on leaded or unleaded fuels. Ordinarily, leaded fuels contain components to reduce deposits within the engine cylinders which unleaded fuels do not. As leaded fuels become unavailable, some refiners will add valve protecting components to the unleaded fuels to satisfy the leaded market. Such fuels will then potentially cause an increase in the octane requirement. This invention deals with polybasic carboxylate additives having valve seat protection properties which avoid or minimize the octane requirement increase.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to methods of improving the low temperature storage and performance properties of fatty acids and/or derivatives thereof, as well as compositions containing fatty acids and/or derivatives thereof having superior lower temperature storage and performance properties.
Abstract:
The invention relates to an integrated process for the production of 5-hydroxymethyl furfural (HMF), K2SO4, levulinic acid and formic acid from κ-carrageenan, the latter being obtained from fresh Kappaphycus alvarezii seaweed biomass after expelling the juice. Mg(HSO4)2 was used in HMF synthesis, with co-production of galactose. The aqueous stream after HMF extraction was treated with the seaweed juice which process facilitated recovery of K2SO4 in pure form. The galactose may be utilised for synthesis of levulinic acid and formic acid before or after K2SO4 recovery or, alternatively, utilised for other purposes. Catalysts required in the synthetic reactions are generated in the process itself while the process energy required is met out of additional supplies of the seaweed biomass which is subjected to combustion/gasification.
