Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for adjusting noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) limits for a vehicle based on a number of occupants in the vehicle. In one example, a method may include responsive to detecting zero occupants, reducing NVH constraints for operating the vehicle and adjusting one or more vehicle operating parameters based on the reduced NVH constraints.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for maintaining a desired engine coolant level and a relative glycol amount in the engine coolant by using water sourced from on-board vehicle systems. In one example, a method may include supplying water to the engine coolant reservoir in response to the engine coolant level decreasing below a threshold. Also, a relative glycol amount in the coolant may be maintained at a threshold amount by adding water to the coolant in response to a relative glycol increasing above the threshold.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for using compression heating to heat a cylinder piston before cylinder combustion is resumed. Cylinder heating is achieved using combinations of slow unfueled engine rotation where the engine cylinders are heated via compression stroke heating, and slow compressor rotation where the cylinders are heated via compression heating. One or more intake or exhaust heaters may be concurrently operated to expedite cylinder heating.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for addressing engine cold-start emissions while an exhaust catalyst is activated. In one example, a method for improving exhaust emissions may include flowing ionized air into an engine exhaust, downstream of an exhaust catalyst, to oxidize exhaust emissions left untreated by the catalyst. The approach reduces the PM load of the exhaust as well as of a downstream particulate matter filter.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for estimating water storage in a charge air cooler (CAC). In one example, engine operation may be adjusted responsive to water storage parameters at the CAC, the water storage parameters based on an output of a first oxygen sensor positioned downstream of the CAC and a second oxygen sensor positioned upstream of the CAC. Further, operation of the first oxygen sensor and the second oxygen sensor may be diagnosed during certain engine operation conditions wherein no condensate is forming in the CAC.

Abstract: Methods and systems are described for monitoring air/fuel imbalance in cylinders of an engine. In one example method, air/fuel ratio of a cylinder is modulated to produce a series of rich, lean, and stoichiometric conditions in the cylinder and corresponding crank accelerations are measured to calculate a peak function indicating an air/fuel ratio in the cylinder. The peak function is calculated over a plurality of modulations to provide a more reliable computation of the air/fuel ratio of the cylinder and its deviation from a pre-determined air/fuel ratio.
