Abstract: A method of curing a curable composition includes contacting the free-radically curable composition with the solid primer layer thereby causing at least partial curing of the curable composition. The solid primer layer includes a binder material, optional beta-dicarbonyl compound, and an organic peroxide. The curable composition includes at least one free-radically polymerizable compound, a polyvalent metal compound, and a quaternary ammonium halide. The method can be used for adhesive bonding of substrates and preparation of various articles.

Abstract: A method of forming a self-cleaning film system includes depositing a perfluorocarbon siloxane polymer onto a substrate to form a first layer. The method includes removing a plurality of portions of the first layer to define a plurality of cavities in the first layer and form a plurality of projections that protrude from the substrate. The method includes depositing a photocatalytic material onto the plurality of projections and into the plurality of cavities to form a second layer comprising: a bonded portion disposed in the plurality of cavities and in contact with the substrate, and a non-bonded portion disposed on the plurality of projections and spaced apart from the substrate. The method also includes, after depositing the photocatalytic material, removing the non-bonded portion to thereby form the self-cleaning film system.

Abstract: A weather resistive barrier (WRB) for the exterior protection of building substrates can have a water vapor permeability that decreases with increasing temperature. In an embodiment, the WRB includes a coating comprising a LCST polymer, and may further include a second polymer. The WRB can be part of a building assembly, part of a sheet, or a sheet itself, the sheet having an air permeability of less than 0.02 L/(s m2) at a pressure of 75 Pa. Furthermore a liquid coating composition can include a LCST polymer and a second polymer, wherein the liquid coating composition can be adapted that a solid coating formed by the liquid coating composition has an air permeability of less than 0.02 L/(s m2) at a pressure of 75 Pa and a water vapor permeability that decreases with increasing temperature.

Abstract: A microencapsulated pigment including a leuco dye system is incorporated as one or more layers in a roll of adhesive tape. The tape is applied and may be rubbed by hand or another object to induce a color change. The change may serve as an indicator that the tape is well adhered for masking purposes in a painting operation, or to present a design where only selected portions of the tape are rubbed to induce the color change. The microencapsulated pigment may be constructed so that the color change is irreversible or reversible.
