摘要: A glass fibre reinforced plastic substrate provides the mechanical strength and thermal properties for use e.g. in flat display devices. There is a trend towards flat display devices comprising flexible displays. Such display devices also need flexible substrates, and a method to produce such flexible substrates cost effectively. To make such flexible display by conventional manufacturing technologies that have been applied to produce the LCD displays, glass substrates need to be replaced with elastic substrate materials that are deformable even at room temperatures. The elastic substrate must have mechanical durability to offer flexibility desired. Now there is developed a method for producing a glass fibre reinforced plastic substrate so that the glass fibres and binding material are arranged to form a layer with a certain content of glass fibres and then the layer is arranged to be pressed to a thickness that is desirable to the substrate sheet.

摘要: Partially cured gel coats are prepared in a manner for subsequent application to a substrate, e.g. a reinforcing polymer matrix, by a process comprising the steps of: A. Applying a gel coat, e.g., an unsaturated polyester resin, to a nonporous mold, e.g., a polyester film, which is at least partially transparent to actinic radiation, e.g. UV light; and B. Exposing the surface of the gel coat that is in contact with the film, i.e., the bottom surface, to actinic radiation that has first passed through the mold. In certain embodiments of the invention, the surface of the gel coat opposite the bottom surface, i.e., the top surface, is exposed to actinic radiation shortly after the bottom surface is exposed to the actinic radiation to effect a bi-directional cure of the gel coat. The gel coat produced by the process of the invention is nonporous and essentially defect-free.

摘要: A method of the invention can produce a fiber-reinforced thermoplastic resin foamed product having less unevenness in a thickness of a surface layer and excellent mechanical strength. In the method, a fiber-reinforced thermoplastic resin sheet is continuously shaped into a hollow member, and a foaming resin composition containing a thermoplastic resin and a foaming agent is supplied into an interior of the obtained hollow member. The foaming agent is foamed so that the hollow member is shaped into a desired form by the foaming pressure.

摘要: Carpet material with at least a proportion of uncleaned used carpets is shredded to form a fiber-like wooly mass. The carpet material contains a thermoplastic binder with a low melting point, for example polypropylene, which can be derived from the used carpets or be added. On at least one side of the carpet material, a cover layer of wood chips is provided. The carpet material, together with the layers of the adhesive-coated wood chips which form the cover layers, is compressed to form the molded part or panel, at a temperature which lies above the plasticizing point of the thermoplastic binder, but below the plasticizing point of any other thermoplastic components of the carpet material.

摘要: The present invention provides a metal/polymer composite comprising a polymeric substrate and a sintered mat of randomly-oriented metal fibers embedded therein, the fibers having a substantially circular cross-section and a diameter of about 10 to 200 .mu.m. The polymeric substrate is typically a thin, flexible sheet-like material having a pair of planar surfaces. The polymeric substrate is preferably thermoformable. If thermoformability is desired the metal will have a melting point of less than the thermoforming temperature of the polymeric substrate. The thermoformable metal/polymer composite of the present invention may be stretched to at least 20%, and often can be stretched at least 200% of its original dimensions, at least in certain regions, without loss of electrical continuity or EMI shielding properties. The present invention also provides a method of making a metal/polymer composite and a sintered mat of randomly-oriented metal fibers.
