Abstract: A system and methods for detecting polyps using optical images acquired during a colonoscopy. In some aspects, a method includes receiving the set of optical images from the input and generating polyp candidates by analyzing the received set of optical images. The method also includes generating a plurality of image patches around locations associated with each polyp candidate, applying a set of convolutional neural networks to the corresponding image patches, and computing probabilities indicative of a maximum response for each convolutional neural network. The method further includes identifying polyps using the computed probabilities for each polyp candidate, and generating a report indicating identified polyps.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a biological probe structure, as well as apparatuses, systems, and methods employing this structure. In particular embodiments, the structure includes a hermetically sealed unit configured to receive and transmit one or more optical signals. Furthermore, the structure can be implanted subcutaneously and interrogated externally. In this manner, a minimally invasive method can be employed to detect, treat, and/or assess the biological target. Additional methods and systems are also provided.

Abstract: An image processing apparatus including: an image acquisition device for observing a living body; a blood vessel recognition device that irradiates the living body with an exploration laser beam and that recognizes a blood vessel; an arithmetic operation unit that calculates a first laser spot position on a first frame acquired by the image acquisition device when the blood vessel is recognized and that adds a mark corresponding to the first laser spot to a position on a second frame corresponding to the first frame, the second frame being acquired at a time different from the time of the first frame; and a display unit for displaying, on an image acquired by the image acquisition device, a plurality of the marks added by the arithmetic operation unit as a result of the blood vessel being recognized at a plurality of different times.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a fluorescent image system capable of generating white light by mixing three monochromatic lights, i.e. red, green and blue monochromatic lights, having a narrow band wavelength, instead of white light of constant wavelength; providing a fluorescent image-use light source that generates a mixed light by adding a fluorescent excitation light source suitable for fluorescent substances; and photographing a general image and fluorescent image simultaneously with the light sources. The fluorescent image system includes a monochromatic light source to generate white light by mixing red, green and blue monochromatic lights, and a fluorescent excitation light source for fluorescent images; and includes a mixed light source to provide a mixed light which mixes monochromatic light and fluorescent light, and an image photographing device which separates the wavelengths of visible light and fluorescent light in the mixed light, and photographs a general image, fluorescent image and mixed image.

Abstract: Methods for optical imaging, particularly with optical coherence tomography, using a low coherence light beam reflected from a sample surface and compared to a reference light beam, wherein real time dynamic optical feedback is used to detect the surface position of a tissue sample with respect to a reference point and the necessary delay scan range. The delay is provided by a tilting/rotating mirror actuated by a voltage adjustable galvanometer. An imaging probe apparatus for implementing the method is provided. The probe initially scans along one line until it finds the tissue surface, identifiable as a sharp transition from no signal to a stronger signal. The next time the probe scans the next line it adjusts the waveform depending on the previous scan. An algorithm is disclosed for determining the optimal scan range.

Abstract: A cancerous lesion identifying method via hyper-spectral imaging technique comprises steps of: acquiring a plurality of first pathology images via an endoscopy, wherein the first pathology images are cancerous lesion images respectively; importing the first pathology images into an image processing module to acquire a plurality of first simulating spectra of the first pathology images so as to generate a principle component score diagram in accordance with the first simulating spectra; defining a plurality of triangle areas in the principle component score diagram in accordance with the first simulating spectra; determining whether a principle component score of a second simulating spectrum of a second pathology image is within any one of the triangle areas; and confirming the second pathology image belongs to one of the cancerous lesion images when the principle component score of the second simulating spectrum is within any one of the triangle areas.

Abstract: Vision systems on catheters, cannulas, or similar devices with guiding lumens include receptors distributed in annular areas around respective lumens. Each of the receptors has a field of view covering only a portion of an object environment, and the field of view of each of the receptors overlaps with at least one of the fields of view of the other receptors. A processing system can receive image data from the receptors of the vision systems and combine the image data to construct a visual representation of the object environment.
