    摘要: The performance of a gas-fueled unthrottled internal combustion engine is improved by optimizing excess air ratio (lambda) in the engine. Lambda is optimized by selecting automatically and continuously the optimum fraction of cylinders firing (OFF) as a function of engine operating parameters, eliminating the fuel charge from one or more cylinders to obtain firing in the OFF, and distributing the unused fuel to the OFF, thereby decreasing lambda in the firing cylinders to an optimum level. OFF may be calculated according to mathematically derived and empirically weighted equations, or obtained with reference to suitable look-up tables. In addition, optimum lambda and OFF may be adjusted to take into account the effects of exhaust gas recirculation (egr), engine speed, and/or engine timing. Further lambda adjustment can be performed by suitable control of egr, ignition timing, and/or turbo air bypass (TAB).

    摘要: A system for controlling an air/fuel ratio of an internal combustion engine supplied with a blended fuel of gasoline and alcohol and equipped with a blowby gas ventilator. An oxygen sensor is provided and an amount of fuel supply is corrected in response to the detected air/fuel ratio within a range having a lower limit set in the lean direction and an upper limit set in the rich direction. At engine starting, injected alcohol may not vaporize but leak into the crankcase and will then vaporize to pass into the air intake passage along with the blowby gas when the engine temperature rises, causing the air/fuel ratio to be become rich beyond the correction lower limit. For that reason, in this system, engine coolant temperature and alcohol content in the fuel are detected. And if the temperature is within a range defined from the alcohol boiling point when the alcohol content is above a reference value, the lower limit of the range is shifted in the leaner direction. The air/fuel ratio can therefore be corrected in the lean direction.

    摘要: A control system for an engine capable of operating on more than one type of fuel includes an engine control unit that determines a default fuel volume to be injected into the engine based on relevant engine parameters and characteristics of a default fuel type. A default mass fuel flow rate is derived from the default fuel volume and relevant engine parameters. The actual mass fuel flow rate into the engine is inferred from the mass air flow rate into the engine and the exhaust gas air-to-fuel ratio, which is determined using a wide range oxygen sensor. A fuel correction factor is calculated from the default mass fuel flow rate and the inferred mass fuel flow rate. The fuel correction factor is used to increment or decrement the default fuel volume in a subsequent fuel injection cycle thereby incrementing or decrementing the inferred mass fuel flow rate toward the default mass fuel flow rate.
