A method and an apparatus control a car equipped with an automatic transmission having a lockup clutch. When the lockup clutch is in the lockup state, a variation of a generated torque is detected. When the range of the torque variation detected exceeds a predetermined value, an engine torque is reduced by controlling the engine, and the automatic transmission is controlled to compensate for a reduction of the driving torque due to a reduction of the engine torque. Thus, the speed change ratio is changed to the low gear side. The control unit includes a unit for controlling an output torque of an engine according to a command value, a unit for changing the transmission ratio of the automatic transmission, a unit for detecting a variation of the engine torque, a unit for deciding a target driving torque, a unit for reducing a torque command value when the range of a detected variation of the torque has exceeded a predetermined value when the lockup clutch was in the lockup state, and a unit for deciding a transmission ratio at which the reduction of the driving torque due to the reduction of the engine torque is compensated for.

The first object of the present invention is to provide a PDP with improved panel brightness which is achieved by improving the efficiency in conversion from discharge energy to visible rays. The second object of the present invention is to provide a PDP with improved panel life which is achieved by improving the protecting layer protecting the dielectrics glass layer. To achieve the first object, the present invention sets the amount of xenon in the discharge gas to the range of 10% by volume to less than 100% by volume, and sets the charging pressure for the discharge gas to the range of 500 to 760Torr which is higher than conventional charging pressures. With such construction, the panel brightness increases. Also, to achieve the second object, the present invention has, on the surface of the dielectrics glass layer, a protecting layer consisting of an alkaline earth oxide with (100)-face or (110)-face orientation. The protecting layer, which may be formed by using thermal Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) method, plasma enhanced CVD method, or a vapor deposition method with irradiation of ion or electron beam, will have a high sputtering resistance and effectively protect the dielectrics glass layer. Such a protecting layer contributes to the improvement of the panel life.

A torque detection mechanism can be provided for a power train and its control unit without newly adding a sensor and its signal processing module. As a gear pair for the torque detection mechanism of a phase difference type, existing gears in a transmission are used, or a gear pair for this mechanism are provided adjacent to these existing gears. From phase signals sent from pickups, a phase difference signal is obtained by use of one part of existing devices in the control unit. The torque detection mechanism can be realized with the minimum number of component parts by utilizing the existing members and spaces instead of newly adding a sensor and its module. The invention can be applied to either of FF and FR cars, and has a practical structure in respect of the performance, costs and reliability.

A method of forming an ink image with a thermo-sensitive ink by using a printing plate that is used in dry lithographic printing, and printing the ink image onto an object. An ink remover is placed via a thermo-sensitive ink layer that is in a heated state on a printing surface of a printing plate having a part receptive to ink and a part capable of repelling ink. The printing plate and the ink remover are separated after they are cooled so that the ink layer on the part capable of repelling ink is transferred to the ink remover. The ink image obtained on the printing plate or the ink remover is transferred to an object. Printing that does not require maintenance that has been essential to conventional dry lithographic printing becomes possible.
