摘要: The present invention includes a hydrogel and a method of making a porous hydrogel by preparing an aqueous mixture of an uncrosslinked polymer and a crystallizable molecule; casting the mixture into a vessel; allowing the cast mixture to dry to form an amorphous hydrogel film; seeding the cast mixture with a seed crystal of the crystallizable molecule; growing the crystallizable molecule into a crystal structure within the uncrosslinked polymer; crosslinking the polymer around the crystal structure under conditions in which the crystal structure within the crosslinked polymer is maintained; and dissolving the crystals within the crosslinked polymer to form the porous hydrogel.

摘要: Described herein is a polymerized biorenewable, previously modified, or functionalized oil, comprising a polymeric distribution having about 2 to about 80 wt % oligomer content, a polydispersity index ranging from about 1.30 to about 2.20, and sulfur content ranging from 0.001 wt % to about 8 wt %. Methods of manufacturing the polymerized oil as well as its incorporation into asphalt paving, roofing, and coating applications are also described.

摘要: The invention relates to a method for extraction of hemicellulose, lignin and carbohydrates from a lignocellulosic biomass, wherein the method comprises: 1) extracting hemicellulose from lignocellulosic biomass, by heating lignocellulosic biomass and subcritical water to 110-170° C., under a pressure of from atmospheric pressure up to 2000 psi, and letting hemicelluloses be extracted from the biomass, leaving a first fiber residue, and 2) extracting lignin and carbohydrates from said first fiber residue, by heating said first fiber residue and said second solvent comprising ethanol and water to 110-170° C., under a pressure of from atmospheric pressure up to 2000 psi, and letting lignin and carbohydrates be extracted from said first fiber residue, leaving a second fiber residue. 2) may be performed in a plurality of static cycles. The invention further relates to a lignin obtained by said method.

摘要: The invention relates to a method for producing a binder composition, without using a compound selected from the class of phenols. The method comprises: (i) heating an aqueous composition comprising lignin in the presence of a catalyst; (ii) mixing a crosslinking agent with the aqueous composition from (i) and heating the same at a temperature of 60-95° C. for pre-polymerizing lignin and crosslinking agent; (iii) mixing tannin with the aqueous composition from (ii) for polymerizing tannin with the pre-polymerized lignin and crosslinking agent until a binder composition with a predetermined viscosity value is formed; wherein the molar ratio of crosslinking agent to lignin and tannin is 0.5-1.7.

摘要: Modified lignin products, processes for making them, and their use to produce rigid polyurethane or polyisocyanurate foams are disclosed. The processes comprise heating a lignin source with a nitrogen source and a starved concentration of a C1-C5 aldehyde to give a reaction mixture comprising a Mannich condensation product, neutralizing the reaction mixture, and isolating the modified lignin product. The process is performed at a mass ratio of lignin source to nitrogen source within the range of 1:1 to 1:5 and at a molar ratio of nitrogen source to C1-C5 aldehyde within the range of 3.5:1 to 1:1. Polyol blends and performance additives that contain the modified lignin products are described. Rigid foams that process well and incorporate up to 60 wt. %, based on the amount of polyol component, of the modified lignin contribute to excellent flame retardancy and low-temperature R-value performance.
