    摘要: To provide a water-based polymer dispersion for isocyanate-crosslinked adhesives comprising a polymer (1) which is obtained by emulsion polymerization of a monomer composition comprising at least one monomer selected from the group consisting of an aromatic vinyl monomer and a (meth)acrylate monomer, a crosslinkable monomer, and a different monomer, in respective predetermined amounts; and a polymer (2) which is obtained by emulsion polymerization of a monomer composition comprising at least one monomer selected from the group consisting of an aromatic vinyl monomer and a (meth)acrylate monomer, a hydroxyl group-containing vinyl monomer, an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer, and a different monomer, in respective predetermined amounts, wherein the polymers (1) and (2) have a Tg difference of 20 to 80° C.

    摘要: A conformable tape for bonding a lens block to ophthalmic lens blanks is provided. The tape comprises a polymeric backing and a pressure-sensitive adhesive. In a first preferred embodiment the surface of the backing is a blend of an olefin polymer with a polymer having acidic functionality. The blend may be formed as the backing layer, i.e., directly on the adhesive layer of the tape, or as the outer surface layer of a multilayered backing. In a second embodiment, the surface of the backing is a copolymer of an olefin monomer with a monomer having pendant acidic functionality. A lens block may be adhered to an ophthalmic lens blank by applying a section of the tape described above to an ophthalmic lens so that the pressure sensitive adhesive of the tape contacts the lens; conforming the tape to the compound surface of the lens; and attaching a lens block to at least a portion of the polymer backing layer. The tape may be made by extruding a polymeric backing material as described above; extruding a pressure-sensitive adhesive; and contacting the polymeric backing material and the pressure-sensitive adhesive. If desired, the polymeric backing material and the pressure sensitive adhesive may be coextruded to form the tape. In most preferred embodiments, the tape may be wound into a roll without a separate liner material.

    摘要: An improved emulsion polymerization process utilizing at least one substantially water-insoluble ethylenically unsaturated monomer is provided for forming discrete solid polymeric particles suitable for use in coating and/or adhesive applications. During at least the initial portion of the polymerization a dissolved water-soluble polymerizable surfactant (as defined) formed by the reaction of a diallylamine, ethylene oxide, and propylene oxide and/or butylene oxide additionally is provided in the reaction zone in the continuous aqueous phase. The water-soluble polymerizable surfactant undergoes copolymerization and is substantially completely consumed during the course of the emulsion polymerization. The emulsion polymerization is carried out on a stable basis, there is no need to attempt to remove a surfactant at the conclusion of the emulsion polymerization, and the resulting polymeric particles are particularly well suited for coating and/or adhesive end uses where they form stable films and exhibit improved adhesion characteristics.
