摘要: An illumination system including a light source, a light guide including an output surface, a first interference reflector positioned between the light source and the output surface of the light guide, and emissive material positioned between the first interference reflector and the output surface of the light guide is disclosed. The light source emits light having a first optical characteristic. The first interference reflector substantially transmits light having the first optical characteristic and substantially reflects light having a second optical characteristic. The emissive material emits light having the second optical characteristic when illuminated with light having the first optical characteristic.

摘要: A color measurement instrument that is capable of both spot reading and strip reading. The instrument includes a handheld unit and a docking unit. When removed from the docking unit, the handheld unit is used for spot reading. When docked in the docking unit, the handheld unit and the docking unit are used together for strip reading. The handheld unit includes a self-storing target that is deployed for spot reading and stored for strip reading. The handheld unit also includes a self-storing calibration plaque that is deployed for calibration and stored otherwise. When docked, the handheld unit teeters on the docking unit between a normally closed position and a manually selectable open position to accommodate a variety of sample thicknesses.

摘要: A multilayer interference reflecting film has individual optical layers arranged to form optical repeat units throughout the film. Each of a plurality of optical repeat units has six individual layers, at least three of which have different refractive indices at a design wavelength λ0. Individual layers having nominally the same refractive index and physical thickness, arbitrarily labeled “A”, “B”, “C”, and “D”, are arranged in a six-layer optical repeat unit in a cyclic permutation of CACDBD, where the A and B layers are each thicker than the C and D layers. The thicknesses and refractive indices of the individual layers can be selected to suppress the second, third, and fourth order reflections, while reflecting light at the design wavelength.

摘要: Biocompatible materials are propelled at the skin with sufficient velocity to cause desired resurfacing of skin layers to the desired penetration depth. The materials, such as dry ice or water ice, are harmonious with the human body and thus eliminate foreign body reactions. Various materials may be used in combination, including local anesthetics and vasoconstrictors in solid or liquid form. The biocompatible solid or liquid particles are suspended in a cold carrier fluid and propelled through an insulated delivery system to the surface of the skin. The treatment of diseased skin lesions may be accomplished using the present invention as a drug delivery system.

摘要: The present invention provides a unique polarizing beam splitter (PBS) that is suitable for use in projection systems and displays. The PBS contains at least one prism having at least one major surface and having a refractive index of at least about 1.6 and a birefringent film disposed on the major surface of the prism. The birefringent film is a multi-layer film having at layers of at least a first material and a second material. After uniaxial stretching, the film exhibits a refractive index difference of less than about 0.15 units in the stretched direction.
