Abstract:
A mechanical infusion pump device for injecting medication into a patient's IV, includes an IV reservoir and a syringe communicated to the IV reservoir and having a syringe plunger connected to a filling plunger that is moved with the syringe plunger in a first syringe-filling direction to fill the syringe with fluid medication. Biasing weight(s) is/are provided on the filling plunger for exerting bias or force from gravity on the filling plunger and the syringe plunger in a second syringe-discharging direction to dispense medication from the syringe into the patient's IV when the filling plunger is released. Only a calibrated amount of medicine can be discharged to the patent's IV over time as determined by calibration of the biasing weights and the metering element located between the syringe and the patient's IV for a given viscosity of the medication.
Abstract:
The present invention provides novel methods and assays for high-throughput screening of combinatorial libraries to identify FPR1 and/or FPR2 ligands (e.g., agonists and/or antagonists), preferably FPR1 agonists and/or FPR2 antagonists, by positional scanning deconvolution. The invention also provides novel FPR1 and FPR2 ligands (e.g, agonists and antagonists), related pharmaceutical compositions and methods of treating FPR1 and FPR2-related disorders.
Abstract:
A transdermal and/or intradermal diagnostic device comprising a combined hollow microneedle interstitial fluid (IF) extraction device and a detector can monitor biomarkers in-situ. For example, electrode transducers with optimally arrayed and designed microneedles can be combined with a suitable pumping method to determine biomarker levels in human subjects under intense physical exertion to monitor metabolic stress and fatigue. The device can perform real-time, in-situ measurements of lactate in human subjects. Monitoring of other biomarkers is straightforward.
Abstract:
The disclosure describes a method for sequencing long portions of DNA sequence by assembling a plurality of shorter polynucleotide reads. Generally, The method includes annealing a plurality of primers to a denatured DNA molecule, appending a barcode polynucleotide to the 5′ end of the primer, subjecting the DNA molecules to a plurality of cycles of (1) pooling, (2) dividing, and (3) appending a barcode polynucleotide to the 5′ end of the primer, sequencing the barcode polynucleotides and the genomic DNA, and assembling the short read polynucleotide sequences having identical barcode polynucleotides.
Abstract:
The present invention provides novel compounds which inhibit cancer-associated transporter proteins, methods of treating or preventing the onset of a cancer-associated transporter protein-mediated disease by administering such compounds, and pharmaceutical compositions comprising such compounds. In one embodiment, the invention provides novel pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine efflux inhibitors that are selective toward ABCG2 over ABCB1.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to the use of neutral lipids, including triglycerides, diglycerides and monoglycerides which may be used to increase neutral lipids (lipid stores and/or lipid droplets) and neutral lipid stores in order to regulate (in particular, induce) autophagy and treat and/or prevent autophagy related disease states and/or conditions. In one embodiment, the invention relates to the use of neutral lipids and/or TRIM proteins which may be used to regulate (in particular, induce) autophagy, target autophagic substrates and treat and/or prevent autophagic disease states and/or conditions.
Abstract:
A photonically controlled microwave device having a photosensitive substrate having an interior region comprising a high radio frequency (“RF”) field for a resonant RF mode. An RF resonator is patterned on a surface of the substrate, the pattern includes an aperture in the resonator positioned to direct light received from a light source to the interior region. The light source may have a wavelength that enables illumination of the interior region to generate free carriers or other photo-induced changes in RF permittivity. An optical boundary may be provided that recirculates the unabsorbed optical power inside the high RF field region until it is fully absorbed.
Abstract:
We describe herein methods for treating HPV infections and medical conditions caused by HPV infections. Generally, the methods include administering to a subject exhibiting at least one symptom or clinical sign of HPV infection a composition that includes an EGFR signaling inhibitor in an amount effective to ameliorate the at least one symptom or clinical sign of HPV infection.
Abstract:
A biological detector includes a conduit for receiving a fluid containing one or more magnetic nanoparticle-labeled, biological objects to be detected and one or more permanent magnets or electromagnet for establishing a low magnetic field in which the conduit is disposed. A microcoil is disposed proximate the conduit for energization at a frequency that permits detection by NMR spectroscopy of whether the one or more magnetically-labeled biological objects is/are present in the fluid.
Abstract:
A photoacoustic medical imaging device may include a substrate, an array of ultrasonic transducers on the substrate, at least one groove etched on the substrate, at least one optical fiber, and at least one facet. Each optical fiber is disposed in one of the grooves. Each facet is etched in one of the grooves and coated with a layer of metal having high infrared reflectivity. Each optical fiber is configured to guide infrared light from a light source through the fiber and toward the respective facet. The facet is configured to reflect the infrared light toward a target.
