Abstract:
It is one aspect to provide a novel trigger point therapy device which is effective for pain management with the treatment of trigger points, releasing tight and painful myofascial fascia, and general self massage. In preferred embodiments, the apparatus comprises: a flexible strap; a first knob mounted to the strap and protruding out from a side of the strap; a second knob mounted proximate to the first knob and protruding out from the side of the strap in the same direction as the first knob; and a strap adjustment means; and wherein the device is configured so that a user may apply varying degrees of pressure to tight and painful myofascial fascia providing hands free self massage.
Abstract:
A wearable device for vibration and/or percussion treatment, such as a covering configured to be worn by a person, such as patient, around the chest of the person, a plurality of actuators provided at the covering, and a control system in communication with the actuators and configured to provide independent and sequential operation of the actuators to generate progressive constriction and relaxation for providing movement of material in a person's lungs in the direction of the sequential operation of the actuators.
Abstract:
We disclose methods and medical device systems for selectively recruiting a nerve fiber type within a cranial nerve, a peripheral nerve or a spinal root. Such a method may comprise applying a first pressure, a heating, and/or a cooling to a second location of the nerve, the pressure, heating, or cooling sufficient to substantially block at least one of activation or conduction in at least one fiber population through the second location of the nerve for a blocking time period; and applying an electrical signal to a first location during the blocking time period to prevent or treat an undesirable brain state change.
Abstract:
A system and method for treatment of skin including a treatment surface having numerous small energy emitting points for fractional skin treatment as well as negative pressure outlets. During a treatment, negative pressure from the outlets may exert a pulling force on an opposing tissue surface to bring the tissue into contact with the energy points.
Abstract:
Apparatus for automatic delivery of chest compressions and ventilation to a patient, the apparatus including: a chest compressing device configured to deliver compression phases during which pressure is applied to compress the chest and decompression phases during which approximately zero pressure is applied to the chest a ventilator configured to deliver positive, negative, or approximately zero pressure to the airway; control circuitry and processor, wherein the circuitry and processor are configured to cause the chest compressing device to repeatedly deliver a set containing a plurality of systolic flow cycles, each systolic flow cycle comprising a systolic decompression phase and a systolic compression phase, and at least one diastolic flow cycle interspersed between sets of systolic flow cycles, each diastolic flow cycle comprising a diastolic decompression phase and a diastolic compression phase, wherein the diastolic decompression phase is substantially longer than the systolic decompression phase.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for providing controlled heating, cooling and motion, in a device such as an active robotic automobile seat, are disclosed. A shape memory alloy (SMA) element, which changes shape upon application of a temperature change to the SMA element, is coupled to a thermoelectric device. Heat flows through the TED upon application of an electrical current through the TED. The apparatus is operable in one of a plurality of modes. In a first mode, a current is applied through the TED to cause a temperature change in the SMA element to change the shape of the SMA element. In a second mode, a current is applied to the TED to cause heat flow in a space adjacent to the apparatus. By controlling application of current to the TED, controlled motion, heating and cooling are achieved in the seat.
Abstract:
A therapeutic system for massage comprises a massage device having an activation cell comprising a hollow pocket at least partially filled with a ferro-magnetic fluid, a permanent magnet suspended in the ferro-magnetic fluid, a coil of electrically-conductive material in proximity to the pocket, and a connection interface to connect the coil to a source of varying voltage and current, and a power source of varying voltage for connecting to the connection interface to drive the activation cell.
Abstract:
The present invention presents a thorny mosaic-like, fluid pressurized, massaging article characterized by a planar mosaic matrix; said matrix comprising at least one multiple typical arrangement, whereat a massaging thistle is surrounded by a plurality of either a fluid or gas conduits, in the manner while the fluid pressure is decreased in at least one conduit, the pressure in at least one other adjacent conduit is increased so the central massaging thistle is forced to incline either towards said pressurized or depressurized conduit and vice versa. The present invention also presents a massager useful for massaging the body comprising a flexible flat liquid container; wherein said liquid are adapted to flow repetitively inside said container in a predetermined course; and a plurality of massaging member comprising a proximal finger-like end and a distal flag-like end, wherein said proximal end is located outside said container and further wherein said distal end is located inside said container so a direct liquid-communication is provided between said flag-like end and at least a portion of the liquid of said container.
