摘要: Compositions are provided comprising a nanofiber scaffold that is seeded with one or more relevant cells and has a basketweave configuration that mimics the structure of a tissue, such as a cardiac tissue. Methods for treating damaged cardiac tissue in a subject are also provided and include applying an effective amount of the composition to damaged cardiac tissue. Methods for making nanofiber scaffold compositions are further provided and include electrospinning a biodegradable polymer onto a mandrel to create a mat of electrospun nanofibers, dividing the mat into nanofiber strips; and weaving the strips into a nanofiber scaffold having a basketweave configuration that mimics the structure of a tissue.

摘要: Compounds for stimulating bone formation are provided. The compound consists of a paste or similar material with viscous properties that can be coated on and spread over bone tissue and other surfaces of interest, wherein the compound contains Mg and at least one of the elements Ca, Mn and Zn, and wherein Mg constitutes at least 75 percent by weight of the total quantity of Mg, Ca, Mn and Zn in the compound. Methods for stimulating bone formation, medical kits, and methods for manufacturing the compound are also provided.

摘要: A porous, self-sustaining body useful as a scaffold for bone grafting is provided. The scaffold comprises a carbonaceous matrix comprising a continuous phase having a surface and defining a plurality of open spaces throughout the matrix. The internal and external surfaces of the matrix are coated with a layer or film selected from the group consisting of osteogenic materials, therapeutic agents, and combinations thereof. The porous body comprises organic materials and is substantially free of metals. Methods of making and using the porous self-sustaining body are also provided, along with kits for facilitating the same.

摘要: A method of manufacturing an implant for use in a surgical procedure, a corresponding implant and the use thereof during the incorporation of a substance is presented. Specifically anodized and blasted titanium implant substrates are provided with a hydroxyapatite (HA) coating for incorporating for example a therapeutic agent. In particular, an anodizing procedure by an electrolytic process in an alkaline liquid is carried out. Moreover, blasting of the anodized titanium implant substrate is carried out by the presented method. The HA coating can be in the range of 1 to 5 μm, particularly in the range of 1 to 3 μm. A local delivery of the active pharmaceutical ingredient is achieved by the implant of the present invention. Moreover, the implant allows for the removal of the implant without damaging surrounding tissue or a bone. Moreover, the HA coating is provided to the substrate such that enhanced fixation as measured by pull-out force is achieved whilst having a relatively low removal torque. The HA coating and drug incorporation may be carried out sequentially but also co-precipitation approach can be used.

摘要: Embodiments of the present invention relate to a biodegradable scaffold for replacing tissue or inducing tissue regeneration and a preparation method thereof, wherein the scaffold comprises at least one woven silk tube layer and a collagen layer inside the tube layer. The scaffold is excellent in terms of tissue regeneration and mechanical properties and causes little or no immune response after implantation. Thus, the scaffold can be effectively used as a matrix for the regeneration of ligaments and tendons and the repair of injured muscles.

摘要: Compositions of small molecules, matrices, and isolated cells including methods of preparation, and methods for differentiation, transdifferentiation, and proliferation of animal cells into the osteoblast blast cell lineage were described. Examples of osteogenic materials that were administered to cells or co-cultured with cells are represented by compounds of Formula II, IV, and VI independently or preferably in combination with a matrix to afford bone cells. Small molecule-stimulated cells were also combined with a matrix, placed with a cellular adhesive or material carrier and implanted to a site in an animal for bone repair. Matrix pretreated with compounds of Formula II, IV, and VI were also used to cause cells to migrate to the matrix that is of use for therapeutic purposes.
