An extreme pressure agent and a friction coefficient modifier which comprises a compound having, in a molecule, a group represented by general formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, and R.sup.3 each represents hydrogen atom or methyl group, and at least one of R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 represents hydrogen atom; a fluid resistant to seizure under load and a wear resistant fluid which each comprises the above additive or the above modifier; and a flame resistant fluid which comprises a thermally polymerizable substance, preferably the above compound. The extreme pressure agent and the friction coefficient modifier have excellent properties and are advantageously used for lubricating oil, metal working oil, and hydraulic oil. The flame resistant fluid suppresses vaporization of flammable substances by thermal polymerization to prevent fire when the fluid is exposed to a high temperature and is advantageously used as lubricating oil, metal working oil, hydraulic oil, heat treatment oil, and grease.

A lubricating oil composition suitable for use in a low or medium speed diesel engine comprising a fuel oil with a residual oil content is characterised in that the lubricating oil composition further comprises a hydrocarbyl substituted amine or polyamine. The effect of such an amine is to reduce deposits due to the residual oil. A method of reducing deposits in a low or medium speed diesel engine is also disclosed.

C. using ASTM method D-445 and thermoplastic polymer(s) and/or wax(es) with a melting point of between 160.degree. F.-500.degree. F. The above combination of materials may constitute 60 percent or more by weight of the final lubricant mixture.

This invention relates to antioxidant compositions comprising (A) at least one secondary diarylamine, (B) at least one sulfurized olefin and/or sulfurized hindered phenol, and (C) at least one oil soluble molybdenum compound. These antioxidant compositions are highly effective at providing oxidative stability to lubricating compositions, especially for highly saturated, low sulfur lubrication base oils.

A lubricative composition which can retain lubricating oil or grease without degrading it, which is heat-resistant and mechanically strong, and can be used continuously for a much longer time than conventional ones without the possibility of shortage of lubricant supply. It includes a first component, which is a modified silicone oil having reactive organic groups, a second component, which is a curing agent having organic groups that react with the reactive organic groups, and a third component, which is a lubricating oil or grease. The third component is retained in a three-dimensionally reticulated structure of silicone formed by polymerizing the first and second components in the third component. The third component has no compatibility with either the first or second components. The lubricating oil or grease retained in the lubricative composition can ooze out through the pores that communicate with each other onto the surface of the lubricative composition, so that the composition will exhibit lubricating properties stably for a long period of time. By adding a high-viscosity synthetic hydrocarbon oil to the base oil of the lubricating oil or grease, it is possible to positively prevent separation of oil during hardening.
