Devices, systems and methods are described which control blood pressure and nervous system activity by stimulating baroreceptors. By selectively and controllably activating baroreceptors and/or nerves, the present disclosure reduces blood pressure and alters the sympathetic nervous system; thereby minimizing deleterious effects on the heart, vasculature and other organs and tissues. A baroreceptor activation device or other sensory activation device is positioned near a dermal bone to provide the treatment.

A method for providing a resuscitating treatment of a human being, which has the following actions sensing human muscle activity, human breathing activity, human neural activity or human cerebral activity, determining whether the human being is in a state of developing apnoea by a processing unit based on the sensing, provoking an induced aspiration reflex by a resuscitating stimulation of a respiratory area of a human brain stem by providing a stimulus with a stimulation device to a location distant from the respiratory area of the human brain stem upon the processing unit determining the state of developing apnoea, the location being a nasal filter of the human being or a nasopharyngeal area of the human being.

A hydraulic device that includes a membrane-covered walled enclosure that enables control of pressure against a body part to be controlled through desired fluid addition or removal from the enclosure. Through pressure control of the membrane a desired traction force is applied to prevent injuries or therapeutically treat a wide variety of medical conditions, including respiratory, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal and skin disorders.

The invention relates to a resuscitation device for humans. The resuscitation device is designed to provide resuscitating stimulation of the respiratory area of the human brain stem, preferably from a location distant from said respiratory area. The invention further relates to a method for providing a resuscitating treatment to a human. Parameters are measured by a number of sensor means and processed by a processing means for providing a response by a number of stimulation means. The stimulation means are electrical, mechanical or chemical stimulation means.

Systems and methods are disclosed to enable a user to favorably coordinate the timing of musculoskeletal movement and skeletal muscle contraction and relaxation with the cardiac pumping cycle in order to improve perfusion of cardiac and peripheral skeletal muscle and other tissues, increase physiological efficiency, decrease myocardial stress, and enhance individual performance, health and safety during rhythmic physical activity. Additionally, systems and methods are disclosed to enable a user to avoid inadvertent unfavorable coordination of musculoskeletal movement and skeletal muscle contractions and relaxation cycles with the cardiac pumping cycle during physical activity.

A method for treatment of a headache disorder in a human subject is provided. The method comprises a) selecting a treatment area in the nasal cavity of the human subject; b) providing a stimulation member arranged for vibration stimulation of the selected treatment area; c) introducing the stimulation member into a nasal cavity of the human subject; d) expanding the stimulation member to exert a pressure on tissue of the selected treatment area; and e) bringing the stimulation member to vibrate in the nasal cavity to impart vibrations to the selected treatment area.

A system for monitoring the use of a home-based medical apparatus providing medical therapy to a patient incorporates communication technology to permit communication from the operated component of the medical apparatus to a central station through one or more of Bluetooth® telephone communications, Smart Phone communications, Internet communications through a network, or other known or forthcoming communication devices. The operated medical apparatus can report any operational function to the central station for monitoring by medical professionals or caregivers, including the timing of any operation of the apparatus, the duration of operation, the effectiveness of the therapy, and malfunctions in the operation of the apparatus. The monitoring system is particularly adapted for use with inflation garment therapy and negative pressure wound therapy systems. The medical apparatus can also be provided with an RFD tag so that the medical apparatus, and perhaps the patient using the medical apparatus, can be found.
