    摘要: A system for processing hydrocarbon materials, comprising a hydrocarbon feedstock source; a process gas source; a waveguide; and a reaction tube structure. The process gas source comprises one or more sources of gases selected from the group consisting of helium, argon, krypton, neon, xenon, methane, propane, butane, ethane, acetylene, propylene, butylene, ethylene, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, water vapor, hydrogen, and nitrogen. The waveguide comprises a lateral portion comprising housing having a first end portion configured to be connected to a microwave generator, a closed opposite end portion, a primary axis extending from the first end portion to the second end portion, and a central portion having an opening, wherein the central portion has a depth that is smaller than a corresponding depth of the first end portion and the second end portion, and a coaxial portion having a first end portion connected to the opening and a lateral dimension that is perpendicular to the primary axis. The reaction tube structure comprises an outer wall made of a dielectric material, and is configured such that when hydrocarbon feedstock from the feedstock source and process gas from the process gas source are fed into the reaction tube structure and microwaves are received in the waveguide, one or more surface waves are propagated in the reaction tube structure to form a plasma within the reaction tube structure and cause the feedstock and process gas to react and form into a product stream, and wherein the reaction tube structure has a lateral dimension that is perpendicular to the lateral portion and parallel to the coaxial portion, and the reaction tube structure is connected to a second end of the coaxial portion.

    摘要: Microwave based systems and methods are provided for obtaining carbonaceous compounds from polypropylene-containing products. In one example, embodiment, a method is provided for recovering at least one organic decomposition product from a polypropylene-containing product, the method comprising: placing the polypropylene-containing product in a reduction zone of a material recovery system; flowing an inert gas through the reduction zone from a reduction inlet to a reduction outlet to purge the reduction zone and maintain a positive pressure therein; applying electromagnetic wave energy from an electromagnetic wave generator to the reduction zone via a bifurcated waveguide assembly, while maintaining the polypropylene-containing product in a stationary position for at least a portion of the applying, to yield at least one gaseous organic decomposition product; and exhausting the at least one gaseous organic decomposition product from the reduction zone along with the inert gas through the reduction outlet.

    摘要: The invention performs uniform chemical reactions with high efficiency by action of microwave onto reaction targets placed within a flow path along a center axis of a waveguide for transmission of microwave. The microwave chemical reaction device includes a circular waveguide for transmission of TM or TE mode microwave or a square waveguide for transmission of TE mode microwave and a flow path shielded from a space within the waveguide by a bulkhead of low microwave loss and coaxially extending along the center axis of the waveguide. Reaction targets to be subjected to chemical reactions are accommodated in the flow path and the microwave acts on the reaction targets within the flow path.

    摘要: An instrument and associated method are disclosed for conducting microwave assisted chemical reactions. The instrument includes a microwave cavity, preferably a closed microwave cavity, for conducting microwave assisted chemical reactions, and a source for applying microwave radiation within the cavity and to a vessel and its contents. The instrument also includes an illumination source for illuminating the vessel and its contents, as well as means for visually observing the vessel and its contents, an infrared detector for monitoring the temperature of the vessel and its contents, and means for preventing the illumination source from saturating the infrared detector, thereby enabling concurrent visual observation and infrared monitoring.
