A vehicle moving apparatus executes an autonomous acceleration/deceleration control including a coasting control and an acceleration control. The apparatus continues executing the coasting control until a predetermined time elapses even when a distance between an own vehicle and a preceding vehicle increases and reaches an upper limit value of a predetermined distance range when a moving speed of the own vehicle becomes equal to or greater than a predetermined speed, the moving speed of the own vehicle is greater than a moving speed of the preceding vehicle, and a difference between the moving speed of the own vehicle and the moving speed of the preceding vehicle is equal to or greater than a predetermined speed difference while the coasting control is executed.

A system for decelerating a hybrid vehicle, the system includes a continuously variable transmission (CVT), a brake pedal, an accelerator pedal, a sensor for detecting a vehicle deceleration, a memory for storing a target deceleration corresponding to a coasting deceleration of the vehicle, and a processor. When the brake pedal and the accelerator pedal are released, the vehicle coasts. If the vehicle deceleration does not match the target deceleration, the processor adjusts the torque output by the CVT so that the vehicle deceleration substantially matches the target deceleration.

A method for operating a motor vehicle, the motor vehicle including a prime mover (1), a transmission (2), and a driven end (3), wherein the transmission (2) is an automatic or automated transmission and is connected between the prime mover (1) and the driven end (3). The method includes activating a sailing mode of the motor vehicle depending on at least one operating condition of the motor vehicle; performing a gear select interlock in the transmission (2), while maintaining the sailing mode, when the sailing mode is active; and deactivating the sailing mode is subsequently depending on at least one operating condition of the motor vehicle. The gear select interlock is implemented in the transmission (2) depending on a rotational speed of the prime mover (1) and depending on synchronous speeds of the gears of the transmission (2).

A method and apparatus is disclosed for evaluating the driving of a vehicle performing a journey on a road network, comprising determining at least one constant speed zone of the road network, a constant speed zone being a portion of the road network at which the vehicle can travel at a constant speed, said determination being based upon expected speeds of travel along the road network determined from positional data relating to the movements of a plurality of vehicles over time along the road network. A speed of the vehicle traversing the road network is determined at a plurality of times during the journey, and a value indicative of a consistency of the speed of the vehicle within the at least one constant speed zone is further determined.

A traffic information providing system includes a traffic information collector configured to collect information on traffic flow. A traffic information generator is configured to detect a speed change point at which an average vehicle speed on a road changes based on the information on the traffic flow and to generate traffic information including position information on the speed change point and a target speed after a vehicle passes the speed change point. A traffic information provider is configured to transmit the traffic information to a vehicle controller for automatically controlling acceleration or deceleration of the vehicle based on the target speed.

A method and apparatus for evaluating an advised driving speed of a vehicle traversing a particular portion of a road network is disclosed. The method comprises accessing first predetermined data indicative of the variation in average fuel consumption for the vehicle with speed of the vehicle, using the first predetermined data to determine data indicative of average fuel consumption for the vehicle for a plurality of speeds within a range based on a speed limit for the portion of the road network being traversed, and evaluating the advised driving speed of the vehicle based at least in part on the determined data indicative of average fuel consumption for the vehicle for the range of speeds. The evaluation of the advised driving speed may further be based on second predetermined data indicative of the variation in a likelihood of the vehicle being in the highest gear with speed of the vehicle.
