Green bodies suitable for use in manufacturing ceramic articles are provided. The bodies comprise a coherent mass of particles of aluminium oxide free of organic binder and having a fracture stress measured by a biaxial disc flexure test of at least 10 MPa. The particles of aluminium oxide are coated with at least one inorganic oxide or hydrous oxide.The green body can be shaped by drilling, sawing etc. to a desired shape approximating to that of the ceramic article which it is used to produce. Generally such shaping is considerably easier than shaping the finished ceramic article.

The present invention relates to an enhanced ceramic coating composition comprising a base non-stick ceramic coating composition and 0.2 wt %-2 wt % diamond additive (DA) with wt % compared with the total weight compared of the ceramic coating composition, wherein the diamond additive comprises diamond and mica particles, and wherein said mica particles comprise coloured mica particles, such as red and/or green and/or blue coloured mica particles. It also relates to a method of coating an artefact with the improved ceramic coating, and an artefact provided with a dry film coating containing an improved ceramic coating prepared using an improved ceramic coating composition of the invention. An artefact coated with the improved ceramic coating has the combined advantages of durable non-stick, scratch resistance and abrasion resistance.

Disclosed is a method for fabricating a solid article from a boron carbide powder comprising boron carbide particles that are coated with a titanium compound. Further disclosed herein are the unique advantages of the combined use of titanium and graphite additives in the form of water soluble species to improve intimacy of mixing in the green state. The carbon facilitates sintering, whose concentration is then attenuated in the process of forming very hard, finely dispersed TiB2 phases. The further recognition of the merits of a narrow particle size distribution B4C powder and the use of sintering soak temperatures at the threshold of close porosity which achieve post-HIPed microstructures with average grain sizes approaching the original median particle size. The combination of interdependent factors has led to B4C-based articles of higher hardness than previously reported.

A plurality of ultrahard abrasive particles having vitreophilic surfaces are coated with a matrix precursor material in a refined colloidal process and then treated to render them suitable for sintering. The matrix precursor material can be converted to an oxide, nitride, carbide, oxynitride, oxycarbide, or carbonitride, or an elemental form thereof. The coated ultrahard abrasive particles are consolidated and sintered at a pressure and temperature at which they are crystallographically or thermodynamically stable.
