Abstract:
A lubricant for use in hot rolling of high chromium stainless steel, the lubricant being continuously supplied to surfaces of hot rolling rolls in contact with the steel being rolled at least during hot rolling of the stainless steel, which lubricant comprises a viscous aqueous solution of water soluble high molecular weight thickener and from 10 to 40% by weight of iron hydroxide powder dispersed in the aqueous solution, said iron hydroxide powder having a median particle size of from not less than 0.1 .mu.m to less than 1 .mu.m and said lubricant having an apparent viscosity within the range of from 1,000 to 50,000 cP.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a lubricant carrier salt for facilitating the cold forming of a workpiece of iron or steel, based on boric acid and/or alkali borate. The salt has an additional content of aliphatic di- or tricarboxylic acid, which either is unsubstituted or substituted by at least one hydroxyl group, and/or of alkali salts thereof, the weight ratio of boric acid/alkali borate to the acid is (5 to 15):1. Especially appropriate carboxylic acids are malonic acid, maleic acid, succinic acid, tartaric acid and/or citric acid.Inorganic or organic thickening agents, such as bentonite and/or polysaccharide, aluminate and/or silicate, dispersants, lubricants and/or antioxidants as well as titanium salt can be contained as additional components in the lubricant carrier salt of the invention. Also disclosed is a method for facilitating the cold working of a workpiece of iron or steel, in which the lubricant carrier salt is applied to the workpiece, provided if desired with a phosphate coating, out of an aqueous solution or dispersion with a concentration of 5 to 30 wt-% and with a temperature of 80 to 100.degree. C. by the immersion or pass-through method.
Abstract:
A carrier-free pulverulent metalworking lubricant composition. In one preferred form, the composition contains at least two lubricant components one of which comprises a resin having a highly polar functional group the composition being formed by a method comprising the steps of: (a) forming a dry mixture of said particulate lubricant components, and (b) agglomerating said admixture to form agglomerated particles. The application of the composition as a metal working lubricant significantly reduces smoke and oily waste generation in hot forging operations by eliminating the use of oils or volatile organic compounds as carriers, while providing acceptable performance, cleanability, and sprayability.
Abstract:
This invention provides a coating for zinc coated steel surfaces and other zinc containing alloys, including zinc/iron, zinc/nickel, zinc/cobalt, zinc/aluminum, and any other suitable metal surface. The coating product of this inventions contains the following ingredients: copolymers made from acrylic, vinylacrylic, and acrylstyrene monomers, has carboxylic radicals from acrylic and/or methacrylic acids, and has an Ia of 30 to 60 mg. of KOH. The water soluble copolymers and lubricatory additives, which include natural or synthetic waxes, graphite, and molybdenum sulfide, are in solid form dispersed in aqueous solution at a ratio of from 1 to 10%.
Abstract:
In a method of lubrication between two sliding members at least one of which is made of a ceramic material, the improvement according to the present invention is characterized in that soot as produced by burning a hydrocarbon fuel is supplied between the two sliding members.
Abstract:
A die-casting powdery mold releasing agent according to this invention is a mold releasing agent comprising a mixture of powdery or granulated mold releasing base material composed of an inorganic compound as used for lubricant in a solid form and an organic compound giving adhesive property to the mold releasing agent, the both having powdery or granulated configurations, or configurations in which the organic compound is covered on the mold releasing base material. The mold releasing agent allows production of castings of high quality, in the die-casting method with good workability and without worsening environmental situations.
Abstract:
A lubricant composition comprised of (A) fatty acid, (B) polytetrafluoroethylene fluorocarbon resin powder (C) pyrogenic amorphous silica powder and (D) carrier. The lubricant is prescribed for use with a pneumatic tire and wheel assembly containing a run-flat device. The lubricant is contemplated as a component in such an assembly.
Abstract:
