摘要: A method for determining and responding in real-time to an increased risk of death relating to a patient with epilepsy is provided. The method includes receiving cardiac data and determining a cardiac index based upon the cardiac data. The method includes determining an increased risk of death associated with epilepsy if the indices are extreme, issuing a warning of the increased risk of death and logging information related to the increased risk of death. Also presented is a second method for determining and responding in real-time to an increased risk of death relating to a patient with epilepsy comprising receiving at least one of arousal data, responsiveness data or awareness data and determining an arousal index, a responsiveness index or an awareness index, where the indices are based on arousal data, responsiveness data or awareness data respectively. The second method includes determining an increased risk of death related to epilepsy if indices are extreme values, issuing a warning of the increased risk of death and logging information related to the increased risk of death. A computer readable program storage device is also provided. Also provided is a method for receiving body data, determining a cardiac, an arousal, a responsiveness, or a kinetic index, determining an increased or increasing risk of death over a first time window relating to a patient with epilepsy and issuing a warning and logging relevant information.

摘要: Various cartridge assemblies for surgical instruments are provided. Cartridge assemblies can include active sensors for applying stimuli to a tissue clamped by an end effector of the surgical instrument and a circuit configured to determine a tissue type of the tissue according to a change in the tissue parameter detected by the sensor resulting from a stimulus from the active element. Cartridge assemblies can also include physical features and/or stored data that identify the cartridge. Surgical instruments further can be configured to resolve conflicts when the physical features and/or stored data are not consistent with each other in their identification of the cartridge type.

摘要: A mobile, self-contained cold therapy device having a container including an internal liquid or ice water tank, air and water pumps for driving air and water to a cold therapy pad with internal air and water bladders, wherein the pad is worn on an injured region of a user. The device includes an electronic controller for controlling air and water flow to and from the bladders, and a holder for supporting the container and worn on the user's body for portable, hands-free mobility while receiving cold therapy. Nipples are incorporated into a thermal conduction surface of the pad and reciprocated into the user's injured region by an air bladder to further reduce edema.

摘要: A cryoprotectant for use with a treatment device for improved removal of heat from subcutaneous lipid-rich cells of a subject having skin is provided. The cryoprotectant is a non-freezing liquid, gel, or paste for allowing pre-cooling of the treatment device below 0° C. while preventing the formation of ice thereon. The cryoprotectant may also prevent freezing of the treatment device to the skin or ice from forming from moisture seeping out from the skin. The cryoprotectant may further be hygroscopic, thermally conductive, and biocompatible.

摘要: Disclosed are methods of using planar or defocused acoustic waves for providing non-invasive sonodynamic therapy. The method includes acoustically coupling an array of piezoelectric transducers to a patient. A controller is configured to generate an electrical drive signal at a frequency selected from a range of frequencies, modulate the drive signal, and drive the transducer with the modulated drive signal at the frequency to produce modulated acoustic waves to produce an average acoustic intensity sufficient to activate a sonosensitizer in a treatment region without damaging healthy cells in the treatment region.

摘要: A flexible device having a layered structure for delivering light or ultrasound to a skin surface. The device includes a flexible substrate that supports either a flexible light emitter layer or a flexible ultrasound emitter layer, as well as first and second flexible conductive layers. The device has a surface configured to face the skin surface, wherein (a) the light emitter layer emits pulsed light with an intensity that is substantially constant across the device's surface when driven by a power source connected to the conductive layers to thereby deliver a therapeutically effective dose of pulsed light to the skin surface or (b) the ultrasound emitter layer emits ultrasound with an intensity that is substantially constant across the device's surface when driven by a power source connected to the conductive layers to thereby deliver a therapeutically effective dose of ultrasound to the skin surface.
