Abstract:
A prosthesis for replacing a portion of the anatomy including an outer bone engaging surface and an inner bearing surface. The prosthesis may include a rim disposed between the inner bearing surface and the outer bone engaging surface. The rim may include at least one contour operable to reduce loading on the rim.
Abstract:
An articulating hemiarthroplasty prosthesis (10) for use in arthroplasty is provided. The prosthesis includes a stem (12) for implantation at least partially within the medullary canal (14) of a long bone (16) and a collar (20). The collar (20) is operably associated with the stem (12) and extends outwardly therefrom. At least a portion of the collar (20) includes a resorbable material. The prosthesis includes a head (30) and a cup (46) for engagement with the head (30).
Abstract:
A draping system provides a continuous sterile field between a patient incision area and one or more medical practitioners. The draping system has a quick release system incorporated into the drape that enables a medical practitioner to separate from the continuous sterile field without disrupting the sterile field around the practitioner or the patient. The draping system may include an abbreviated practitioner gown, a drain and an integral patient incision area or a flap for extending the continuous sterile field around to one or more additional operating room tables. A modular drape and gown system extends the sterile field beyond the operating table allowing practitioners to couple to the extended field. A tent provides an enclosed sterile field useful in mobile or other non operating room surgical environments. Integral lighting and information displays facilitate field surgical procedures.
Abstract:
An orthopedic device adapted for implantation into a body where it contacts bone tissue is disclosed which has at least one spaced apart polarized magnetic element, at least one piezoelectric element or a combination of a polarized magnetic element and a piezoelectric element which are in direct contact with one another or are separately mounted on the implant. The piezoelectric element being at least partially embedded in a surface of the device which contacts bone tissue for the promotion of osteogenesis or osseointegration.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a positioner for controlling the position of a femoral hip implant within the intramedullary canal of a femur.
Abstract:
Expandable devices and methods for treating and enlarging a tissue, an organ or a cavity. The device is composed of a hollow expanding pouch made of a resorbable material or a perforated material that can be attached to a filling element. The pouch can be filled with a biocompatible materials, one or more times in few days interval, after the insertion of the device. While filling the pouch every few days the tissue expands and the filling material if it is bioactive start to function. The devices allow immediate direct contact between the filling material and the tissue. These devices and methods can be used for example for: horizontal and vertical bone augmentation in the jaws, soft tissue augmentation, fixating bone fractures etc.
Abstract:
A vertebral replacement device for supporting adjacent vertebrae includes a vertebral body or vertebral body member having at least one of an upper or lower member adjustably engaged at one end thereof. A spacer can be engaged to the upper or lower member to further increase the height of the vertebral replacement device. The vertebral replacement device can have a chamber extending therethrough for fusion of the supported vertebrae.
Abstract:
An instrument for measuring the medullary canal of a long bone in order to determine the proper size for a stem centralizer is provided. The instrument includes an elongated central portion defining opposed first and second ends and a contact portion. The contact portion extends from the first end or the second end of the elongated central portion. The contact portion has a contact area for contact with the medullary canal and defines a relief area for providing clearance between the instrument and the medullary canal.
Abstract:
A medial/distal tip for an artificial joint for guiding the stem of a cementless artificial joint into a bone canal and holding the stem at a stable position, to prevent osteolysis and loosening of the join from occurring and promoting bone restoration in thinned, chipper and/or weakened portions thereof. The medial/distal tip 10 is made of a bone substituting material, or may be made in two-layer structure having an outer layer of a bone substituting material and an inner layer of a biodegradable and absorbable material.
Abstract:
An articulating motion disc having a core member that expands laterally in response to an axial load to mimic the shock absorbing function of a natural intervertebral disc.
